Do any of you DIY oil changers replace the oil drain plug gasket at each oil change? If so, where can one get them? I'm thinking of changing the oil myself on my new Vibe and want to be prepared. Thanks,JScott
you should check it over and if it looks good.IE. NO Craking then you will be fine to reuse it.I just had my 5th oil change and still usuing original gasket.sometimes it will stick to the pan other times it will stick to the plug....MAKE SURE You have it in place before you seal it up again and head down the road again. Or YOU WILL have a LEAK!!
well, i 'officially' started changing my own oil this weekend and noticed that there wasn't a gasket on the drain bolt (which reminded me of this thread). I talked to my dad (retired mechanic) and he told me that many 'new cars' (according to him) don't use the gasket as the metal to metal contact is such that oil won't leak past. I've NEVER seen oil under my car and it has 39,000kms on it so now i'm wondering if the dealer (who has been doing my oil changes until now) didn't put the gasket back on???Or is the metal to metal correct?
I have signatures turned off so I'm not even sure what mine says in this space!
I didn't have one the first time I changed my own oil either. I decided to put one on since (A) it was free and (B) I figured a little extra protection never hurt.
YES!I still visit GenVibe periodically. I have not forgotten about my "original" family over here!
