Recently I have experienced some disconcerting feedback from my ABS on my VIBE GT. When coming to a a slow stop, or braking on steeper inclines there has been some brake slippage, pedal vibration, and NOISE!. Basic research suggests that it may be an ABS sensor causing the ABS to engage at low speed. The chatter when applying force to the peddle is not very pleasant and the kick-back through the brake pedal makes you want to abandon braking all together. My car is only 6000 miles old so I know the braking system should not be warn out yet. Curious if others have experienced this. One side note. Although the car is fun as hell to wind out and the brakes more than adequate to slow and stop, I have not been driving like a maniac heating up the rotors. I don't expect this has anything to with heat or fade. I have my 6000 mile service on Monday and the dealership is aware of my problem. I will post the results after Mondays check-up
I am with M. Salsa! However your ABS shouldn't engage on dry pavement under gentle normal braking...My cars have had ABS since 1989. The Vibe's ABS seems to be the most civilized with respect pedal feedback and noise, but there is still some. The Honda's made a ticking, clicking noise that my bride called the "crickets", the pedal pulsed, but the gain in control under braking was worth all the theatrics. The reason I bought the Vibe over the Matrix was because ABS is not offered on the XR in Canada. We northerners have more opportunity to "play" with our ABS, just try to take it away from me By all means take it in, compare it with another car to give you the peace of mind you need with your brakes. I don't know how a Lexus sounds and feels under braking, but you can expect some commotion from your Vibe.

I have the same answer as Salsa! My girlfriend, mother and father have differents cars/truck and all of their ABS system work the way you describe. My Vibe didn't have ABS but I think it's normal like the others.

I have ABS on a base vibe. I never had ABS on any car before. The ABS has engaged on me the first time on slippery leaves at low speed. It works great, however it was very loud. My second trial was yesterday in the east coast snow. Also works great. I got to experience over and over again on the wet roads. But I must say, the noise is a shocker. Scared the daylights out of passengers in the car!JDF
quote:Noises were even worst in the first generation ABS!LOL, my 1993 Cavalier had anti-lock brakes... talk about noisy.. and awkward! Clunk clunk clunk.. I could have pumped the brakes faster than the system. quote:One thing you non ABS experienced folks out there should know:1- It doesn't not allow you to brake in a shorter distance, but it will let you maneuver without problems.... you'll be able to steer and keep control of the car!Good to point out Salsa, here is a good site which explains the aspects of ABS pretty well:http://www.mucda.mb.ca/aboutabs.htmSubsequent searches on Google will lead to more results.

You KNEW when the ABS kicked in.The ABS on my base Vibe is much quiter in comparison. I wanted to get a feel for it, so I practiced braking hard a few times in an empty icy parking lot the other day.
