Check Engine Light...It's back!

Post by gnets99 »

I have a 2005 Vibe that I have had for only three weeks. My Check Engine Light is on for the second time since I've owned the car. The first time I took it in, the dealer told me that it was just a 'loose connector' and that I shouldn't have any more problems. Yesterday, I got in the car to go to the store and it was back! Both times, it has come on, it was after a fairly heavy rain storm. The car drives fine when the light is on, but, my gas mileage does seem to decline somewhat. I'm wondering if there's something else I should have them look at this time when I take it in. I'd hate to think that I'm stuck with this problem and am going to have to take the car in every time it rains. As a side note, I've washed the car three times since I've had it and that didn't seem to affect it any. I really don't know the first thing about cars and hope someone can help me out!!!

Jim Causley-Where I bought it. Checked the gas cap several times. Both times it's happened have been several days after I filled up, usually there was around 1/2 tank or less left.

If you were past warranty, then I'd say take it to one of those auto parts stores that will read trouble codes for free, let us know what it is and we can argue about what to try to fix it, but if it's only three weeks old, then take it back to the dealer (grr) and raise some hell about it. A brand new car shouldn;t be having these problems, other 2005 owners aren't having these problems, you already brought it in once and apparently they didn;t fix it correctly, it is damn inconvenient to have to take the car in to the dealer, even if the repair is covered under warranty. Also, just out of curiosity, make them tell you the trouble code that is causing the check engine light to come on, and let us know what it is.

I'd definitely try scheduling an appointment to coincide with rainy weather.. From what it sounds like, there is probably a connection to a sensor/etc. that is getting wet but shouldn't be... Good luck to you and let us know the fix!

Could also be a *faulty* gas cap this is clicking, but is still not sealing properly. They need to read the code to know exactly what is going on.
YES!I still visit GenVibe periodically. I have not forgotten about my "original" family over here!
