Pam

Post by DonB »

I read a tip on the net about easier bug removal after a long trip. It said to spray the front end of the car with the non-stick product Pam and the bugs will come off much easier.I don't think there is anything in the Pam that will hurt the finish, but I don't claim to be a paint expert. Is there anyone on the group that would know for sure? They list the ingredients as: canola oil, grain alcohol, lecithin, and propellant. There is another off brand product that has the same ingredients minus the grain alcohol

I did this several years ago, it was a tip from "The Queen of Clean". Used it on the front of my Neon in peak bug splatter season. The bugs came off a little easier, but the Pam made a greasy mess. Ended up using a dishwashing detergent to get it off, which also takes off the wax. I have found that waxing the front end after every wash is by far the best way to keep the bugs easy to wash off. Just rehydrate them for several minutes, then they wipe right off.

lol, Pam Anderson .The only thing in the ingredients that would concern me is the grain alcohol. Repeated applications might cause the clearcoat to dry out and fade or yellow. Like JohnC said, I think that the biggest problem with it is that it would make more of a mess than its worth. I strongly agree with waxing. If I keep a good coat of wax on the front end, bugs rinse off without much trouble. You might want to use a spray detailer (aka quick detailer) that many car care product manufacturers are making right now. After washing the car, spray some of that on and wipe off according to the directions on the bottle. That should work better than cooking spray and make a lot less mess.
