Automatic Light Control (ALC)

Post by Big_Red »

I know this is one of those things which have been discussed, but isn't there a simple (and I do mean simple) way of disabling the ALC without disabling the Daytime Running Lights (DRL)???? I am getting some Silverstars this week, and I figure the reason why they burn out at the rate they are is because of the lights coming on and off all the time. Your help is appreciatedPlus, if I were to just take out the fuse for the DRL, would it do the job just as easily?

I think the best way to disable auto headlights and still have DRLs is to unplug the light sensor. if you yank off the vent/dimmer/mirror control bezel, you can reach in and push the sensor up out of the dash. Might want to tie it on to something so the wire harness is easy to locate if you ever want to reconnect it.Quote, originally posted by Big_Red »I I am getting some Silverstars this week, and I figure the reason why they burn out at the rate they are is because of the lights coming on and off all the time. It is also possible that they are inherently shorter lived.

There is also a plug just above the cluster, you can see it when you pop off the gauge trim.

Or a small flathead screwdriver, kinda pop the sensor out of the dash...

I shall do a howto on this subject... I've got mine set up the way it sounds you'd like yours to be. DRL's are essential to me, so I didn't want to disable them for the sake of killing the automatic lights.
