Installing Heated Mirrors?

Hey folks..Does anyone know if it's possible to get aftermarket heaters for the side view mirrors on the Vibe? That's the only thing I wish the Vibe had come with...Thoughts?Kent

The mechanics where I work have installed clearance lights on the back of mirrors and found the warmth of the bulb was enough to warm the mirror and clear it. My Google search was fruitless. I was amused to see that I could add an element to my bathroom mirror to prevent fogging. Someday, somewhere perhaps we can add heated mirrors to our Vibes too.

My s-10 had heated mirrors I really now Wish my vibe did too!!!

i miss them from my VW Golf K2....along with the heated windshield washer nozzles and heated seats......,mmmmm..heated seats.....

You know -- just sorta thinking in text here -- I wonder if you could bodge together mirror heaters using a pair of handlebar grip heaters for a snowmobile? Like these:http://www.canadiantire.ca/(removed)...=true They come as flat sheets with the electrical heat traces on them - so you should be able to stick them to the back of the mirror glass once it's been popped off. Then just run the cables inside, get a nicer 2-way switch that fits into the dash, and you should be good to go.....Hmmmm.......

I have been looking at the option of setting up heated side view mirrors to work on the same button as the rear defroster. But I have a link that sells an self adhesive element for car side view mirrors. i was deff. bummed when the vibe didnt have them and all my taurus/sable's had. we could just use some of those hand warmers and put them behind the mirror i think that thing altus has posted might be the best way??

Yo guys.DO NOT pop the glass off these mirrors! You will NEVER get it back on right.scherry2 and I did at the first ohio meet to install my mirror signals, and my driver mirror has never worked right since that day. It pretty much has to be adjusted by hand now. GM mirrors allow the removal of just the glass, but not these toyota mirrors. I assure you, this is a project that, if you wish to do, TREAD LIGHTLY, and do not yank the mirror glass from the motors!!!!

ragingfish, any detail on why it is difficult or what went wrong in your situation? What broke?Did the internals break during removal or replacement?I want to attempt this myself by trying to remove the mirror from the mount rather than removing the mount itself from the rest of the internals. I will try using a heat gun to warm the glass to a point where the adhesive will let go and then worry about how to adhere it back to the mount later.Is the mirror surrounded by any trim that has to be removed?Anything you can remember could prove helpful when I attempt my own removal.Quote, originally posted by ragingfish »Yo guys.DO NOT pop the glass off these mirrors! All I know is it never worked since.
