for those die hard toyota fans out there, this is a good article for you to read if you think your Toyota is so high and mighty.http://www.tctimes.com/site/ne...rfi=8
While most of that article I find believable, the statement:"GM's lowest quality-rated vehicle is the Pontiac Vibe, assembled in California by - you guessed it - Toyota." - I find absurd. This coming from a former Chervolet Blazer owner who is still pizzed about the poor quality 2 years after getting rid.I also base my opinion on friends and family's experience, btw.

That's quite an intriguing article. I think I'll have to send that to my dad, he'll like to hear that one.My best friend's dad is a higher-up at Toyota (VP of North American operations) and my Ion started leaking oil when his son was home on leave from Germany. He was all high-and-mighty about it, saying "ohh, if that were one of my beloved Toyotas, that wouldn't have happened." Well, turns out that the oil leak was caused by a seal that they had a recall out on, so it was fixed, and I went merrily on my way, and Saturn changed my oil for free and made a month of my lease payment for my trouble. 2 weeks later, his wife's Celica GTS siezed a piston, for no apparent reason. Suck on that, padre . . .

Quality rated by whom? Also, where did he get the stat that the Prius gets 36mpg? I know Prius' aren't getting 60, but many owner's are at least in the 40's."GM has five models that get similar mileage to the Prius and carry no price premium like the Prius - but you never read about that."Which ones? I don't believe it. Maybe their EPA says they get around 36mpg, but in real world they don't get that, just like the Pius doesn't get 60. This turkey is mangling facts just like he accuses Toyota and the "media" of doing. Appears he's right about himself, anyway. If GM has 5 vehicles of similar size or larger that get the same real-world mileage as the Prius, I'll print this thread and eat it.

Statistics excerpted from GM President John Smith's remarks to GM dealers, March 2005.Sounds like GM's spin doctors got ahold of it. I know I didn't buy my Vibe new, but I can't believe it it the lowest intial quality of all GM products....anyone here that buy their car NEW (other that CP, we know has has the Vibe from Hell) REALLY had a lot of problems from the beginning?? Service Manager at our Pontiac store says he has never seen many of the Vibe's back once they are sold, and that is his choice for a Demo as well.

I'd like to knock that crown off King Toyota's overly enlarged skull. All my life I've heard "Oh, you should buy a Toyota then you will never ever ever have to go in the shop again! You can even run a Toyota for 100,000 miles without the oil drain plug in the pan and it will give you 500,000,000,000,000 more miles of troublefree service!" Well maybe not that extreme, but things along those lines is what I've heard all along. So guess what - I buy one of these. Toyota mechnicals, based off the f'in COROLLA, which we all know is supposed to be the bestest car ever ever and ever! Yet today's malfunction with every speaker except one and a half plus two tweeters crapping out, I think that failure has made the Vibe rise above the ol' Malibu as... "The worst car the Colonel has ever owned." It was a close one, but the issues as of lately, I have to say it has been the worst.Did I get a lemon? Probably. But I don't feel the overall quality of these cars is all that anyway, even on the good ones... I can agree that probably one of the crappiest cars in the General's lineup would be our cars. Hell, my buddy with an Aveo just puts gas and does oil changes on that thing, what's wrong with this picture? If the Vibe isn't the worst from a reliability standpoint, it certainly is from stupid issues like noises, squeaks, rattles, no paint, whatever that we all seem to have. The masses may not have a Vibe that has things falling off of it every week like mine, but I'd hazard a guess that we all share the same gripes about all the stupid little things. And that's exactly what makes your ownership experience a living hell, all the little things nagging at you non-stop!Don't get me wrong, I'm VERY glad I own the Vibe... It's done more for me than any other car I've ever owned, and I can never regret buying this car for a second. But I gotta say, my "Toyota" experience I've had with this car makes me want to tell Toyota what they can do with it... There's no reason I should have crap break, two or three things at a time, despite babying this damn clunker from the beginning. I've said it a thousand times, if I had beat the hell out of this car, I would certainly expect problems. But mechanical issues cropping up despite overmaintaining the car, things like that, it's pathetic. And what's even more frightening is the attitude I've received from some hardcore Toyota buffs at the workplace, Corolla fans to be exact... They're flat out in denial that their beloved Toyota could ever put out a lemon... Despite me telling them about the problems that I have had with my car, mentioning it was made at NUMMI alongside their Corollas, yanking crap from the same parts bin, being slapped together by the same people, they still say it's because GM has their hand in it. Uh ok... My Toyota engine has little eyeballs that peek out from under the hood that say "Oh lookie! I'm in a Pontiac, so even though I'm a Toyota engine, I've gotta be a piece of junk since I'm in the Pontiac! Let's knock, get 20 miles per gallon, and not be able to pull hills and making Mr. Panic slam his automatic tranny down into first just so he can be going 35 when he gets to the top!!!!" (removed)!!! It just doesn't make sense! Those same defective parts I have could have easily found their way into one of their beloved Corollas, yet somehow that's bloody impossible for that to happen! Folks, it ain't GM here... Well thanks to Delphi for my complete sound system meltdown earlier today, but the rest of the crap - the bad mechanical parts, the poor fit and finish, the poor paint, the whatever else I have to ***** about is Toyota's doing, is it not? Ok, I go read article now. Sorry for being so bitter, but I'll be damned if I'm convinced these are the best things since sliced bread. The majority of you are having good luck - and that's peachy. Hell, I can't even really find much at all wrong with the Mrs' car. But mine sucks, and that has soured me on the whole Toyota thing. It just hasn't been what everybody has yacked about all these years.Sorry, Toyota... Never buying one of your cars again. I'll take less money and go with a friggin' crapo Hyundai. which ironically those I know who have them have less problems and far better overall quality than this Toyota product that I've paid quite a premium for. Or hell, even another GM, it'll be better for sure... As long as it's a native GM product, or maybe that crappy little Aveo even. Whew! That felt good! So, I hope nobody wants to whoop up on me Saturday! I swear, I have nothing against your toyotas, it's just that mine is a piece of crap. Just giving the other side of the story from a guy who once really loved his car, now detests driving it down the street for a gallon of (soy) milk.
