distributed computing devices?

Has anyone used or are using such software?Examples are SETI@homeor United Devices http://www.gird.orgI was just curious if anyone was and what they thought of it....For those who dont know its software that does number crunching for a particular project while you are not using your computer. Basically its using your systems idle time for something usefull...such as cancer research or finding ET
