Radio Install

Post by sloth »

My brother sent me a nice radio he bought a few years ago and I finally got around to installing it. (read wifes out of town and she wouldn't let me do it when she was here). It's an Aiwa MP3 player. He said it was one of the first ones that came out. Anyway the install went pretty good. Got all the parts I needed at the local wal-mart. Looks very nice the trim color is almost the same as the brushed chrome. Plus it's blue that matches my neptune.First I ran into the problem most people do and didn't have any AM, but I remembered there was something about that on here and I hooked up the Antenae booster to the red wire. Which fixed the AM problem, but I'm still not getting as good as reception as my Factory stereo.I think it might be the antenae adaptor as all walmart had was ones that convert like 5 different types to one. So I might hed to radio shack and try just a standard conversion....Any suggestions?

You should try the Metra 40-GM21 antenna adaptor. Should only cost you about $12-15, and should be available at any car audio install shop. However, I've found that radio reception is largely dependent on the receiver; it might just be that the Aiwa has poor reception. Poor radio reception with aftermarket receivers (kind of a joke that they're called that) is just one of those things that for some ridiculous reason is accepted by the industry and by consumers.

That's basically what the radio shack kid told me yesterday. Thanks for the reply though.

Ok, my new radio might not be long for the vibe. The mp3 disks seem to skip a bunch and with my favorite radio station not coming in very good it might be time to switch back to the stock radio. However I hooked up my portable dvd player last night to the aux and the surround sound was pretty amazing.I might try running a disk cleaner through it and see if that helps. If I can talk the wife into letting me get satellite radio it will definately stay in the vibe.

alot of MP3 players are heat sensative. when the HU get's really hot. the mp3 format disks will begin to skip. don't ask me why does it only do it to the mp3 format disk. i don't know.
