Quote »Last January Saturn unveiled the Aura concept car, a midsize sedan designed to replace its ill-fated L-Series four-door. The Aura is now headed for production, and as you can see from our spy photos taken at General Motors' proving grounds, the production Saturn Aura won't stray too far from the concept. The Saturn Aura shares its Epsilon platform with a variety of other GM-affiliated vehicles, including the Chevrolet Malibu Maxx, Pontiac G6, Saab 9-3 and, in Europe, the Opel Vectra. The Epsilon's characteristic long wheelbase should give the Aura more than ample legroom for a midsize sedan. While it appears from these photos that GM has decided to eliminate the gaudy 19-inch chrome wheels that appeared on the Saturn Aura concept at the 2005 Detroit Auto Show, the new front end of Saturn has been only thinly veiled. We can expect to see the Aura's distinctive grille on the face of every Saturn vehicle in the near future. The concept also featured a four-paneled panoramic glass roof, not unlike that which is found on the Pontiac G6. Even if Saturn decides to forgo this as a standard feature on the Aura, it could make the options list. The top-of-the-line Aura is expected to boast around 250 horsepower from GM's 3.6-liter DOHC V6. Although the concept featured a six-speed automanual transmission, a five-speed automatic is more likely for production. Like all Saturns, the Aura will feature plenty of standard safety features including electronic stability control, side airbags and head curtain airbags. The best news about the Saturn Aura, though, is that it will most likely start at under $25,000 when it goes on sale in the summer of 2006.SOURCE:
