quote:I was wondering if anyone can tell me if it is possible to change the rear brakes on the base vibe from drum to disc.I have read several Celica GT owners using Celica GTS rear disk brakes and swaping them out for there stock drums on the rear. It has been said this can be done to a Matrix or Vibe. If you can find a wreched Celica GTS (late model 98 or newer) you can do this mod. Everything should even bolt right up. You'll need to get the knuckles, calipers, ebrake cables, ABS sensors, basically the whole rear assembly. The part #s for the ABS computers are the same between GT and GTS for 00 on up, and the master cylinder is the same 2000 and up. Meaning what you have in your Vibe should work with the GTS rear disks. I got this info off a Celica so check and make sure it will work on the Vibe before taking my word for it.Of course if you could find a wrecked Vibe GT or XRS you could take the rear brakes off it. For awhile this will be a hard find but there are online junk yards who have nation wide data bases that could find what you need take it off and ship it to you. I have and still use these online salvage yards.quote:is there any difference between the two motors other than the VVTL-i and if not will it be possible to buy the gt head and put it on the base model giving it the 180 horsepower?. This may be cheaper. The 1ZZ-Fe and 2ZZ-Ge are 2 totally different engines. The Displacement, bore, stroke, compression ratio, cylinder liners are all different. Both engine blocks are made of aluminum but the cylinder liners of the 1ZZ-FE are made of cast iron and the 2ZZ-GE uses a Metal Matrix Composite (MMC).The 1ZZ red lines between 6,000 and 6,400 RPMs depending on what vehicle it's in. The 2ZZ can safely be reved to 8,500 RPMs.The 1ZZFE “izzy†with the FE head is the quick response, high torque model- has a longer stroke ratio, to further improve the torque characteristic. The 2ZZGE “duzzy†with the sports type GE head is the high RPM, higher HP unit- with a square bore / stroke ratio. This allows it to rev and deliver power in the higher RPM range. The heads are not swapable. I have personally researched this and it can't be done.quote:I heard on this site that the 17" rims were not available on the vibe with a moonroof because of chasis weakness, is this true and what might the results be of adding this size rim after purchasing the vibe?.Yes this is true. A few months ago I heard Pontiac was trying to fix this problem but not sure if it has or will hapen. Check out the topic below.
