Anyone heard of Diamond Audio amps?

Post by Smokin' Rubber »

Was thinking about getting this amp since its the only amp that is 600w RMS at a stable 1 ohm (according to the guys at magnolia audio/video), but I haven't heard anything about diamond so any ideas on whether or not it would be a good or decent buy?http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_3011.htmlThe next best amp I could find was an audiobahn amp stable 1 ohm as well, but it was 800w RMS which is a bit much for my 500w RMS subs

Diamond is of MUCH higher quality than Audiobahn...No offense to the Audiobahn folks...Don't let the specs fool you...they are really powerful and good sounding pieces of electronics

Why do you need 1 Ohm stable operation?

I'd be drawn to the Audiobahn just because it's more power than you need (by 200w), and you won't stand a chance of underpowering the subs. But...the Diamond is better components all around...cheaper..and just enough to be right...Eh, maybe you should ignore my PM and just go with the Diamond.

Well sheesh idontknowwhatimdoing, ridiculous loads on amplifiers is all the rage today, why do you think it is crazy?Well it goes like this: The damping factor of an amplifier (in a simplified explanation) is the amount of "control" the amplifier has over the driver. To put it another way it is the amount of "control" the amp has to start, stop, and reverse the motion of the motor structure. (For this exmple, assume power is proper for the system and all things are ideal) If the damping factor of the amplifier is kept over (arbitrary number here) 200, then the sub should perform well and the amp should keep good control over the speaker; allowing for fast, transient bass, that behaves well in it's enclosure.AS SOON as you cut the load impedance in half, say from 4 to 2 ohms, the damping factor is cut in half also. (theoretically) So on a 1 Ohm load, an amplifier that has a damping factor of 200 is now an amplifier with a damping factor of 50 and the result is not pretty. So you now have an amplifier that is tripling it's uncontrolled power into a poor helpless woofer. I know amps jam hard at 1 Ohm...I know they make more power, but check out the real deal here...to gain one thing you have to sacrifice another. Their is no substitue for RAW 4 Ohm power; except amplifiers with damping factors in excess of 2000 @ 4 ohms...and I personally don't have the grip for an amplifier of that expense.Again, I hope this is not confrontational, but this 1 ohm stuff is nuts...I can't believe what the car audio industry is trying to sell us these days.

Lol my subs are old (relatively) they are the model from like 2000, the very first HX2's that rockford madeSo the 1 ohm thing isn't THAT new its hard finding good 1 ohm amps though, some of them put out like 2000w RMS at 1 ohm which is definitely a bit suicidalI'll sleep on the amp decision and tell you guys what I decide and how it works out when I get it installed (2-7 days later when it gets to my door hehe)

If I was in your shoes, I would check for two good amps and run one to each sub...BTW, the OLD hx2 subs kicked some serious a r s e!

if you think the amps are good, should hear the speakers, if you go with those plan on shelling out the money, but they sound GREAT!!!

Ok so I got the diamond and I gotta say DAAAAAAMN THAT SH*T's LOUD! lol I'll post pics sometime this weekOverall I have to say its a really clear amp much better than my original MTX and since it was actually the right ohm output it really makes the car pound like no other. Can easy shake the mirror down to the bottom of its range of motion in a matter of seconds and you can definitely hear it from a ways away lol
