i am about to make my vibe vibrate. my moto is "Feel The Vibe?". I want to take it to Best Buy for the whole change. 150-200 install for all. Wires and all that I will provide. Speakers from best buy, my own amp and sub/box.install 150-200wires-80 buckKenwood in dash with mp3/ipod/3 preouts out 300 bucksspeakers: alpine R series 6.5 front and back( i preffer blaupunkt)kicker solobaric L5 with custom box 150 bucks usedI got a DHD amp that puts out 1000W @ 4ohm, or double at 2 Ohms stable, about 800 continous. I know some might not belive it, but it was running my insider speakers and 2 300rms pioneer immps before.I want 1 fard cap and new yellow top battery 120 bucksi want all inside speakers with no bass and only bass from the back...do i need anything else? i want the old system out. the front speakers i think they are already out. the right front makes a pop noise and not even when is at full power..
- Do you have M&T with the six speakers? If so, they might charge you more to 'bypass' the factory amp. You'd have to do this even if you have a 4 Channel amp, and i'd suggest contacting ragingfish for the M&T amp wiring diagram, so they don't have to rewire the whole car.- I don't see a 4 channel amplifierWith everything you're doing there, you really want a 4 channel amplifier with a decent crossover on it. This will accomplish several things.1. The TypeRs you're putting in the doors really want more power than the headunit can put out2. The crossovers will do what you want, with the door speakers putting out no bass (but midrange)- Is that including the antenna adapter? The wiring harness? The dash fit-kit?- You might want to see about a larger cap, maybe 1.5/2 Farad. I know they say 1/2 farad per 500w, but, it never hurts. I know CircuitCity has 1.5 farads for sale.Other than that..it does look fairly good. I would strongly reccomend a decent 4 channel amp over the 'bass blocker' solution they'd pitch to you.

they do not pitch bass blockers, the amp does full cross over, and has also setting for what frequencies to go to what ch. i had a similar setup in my other car....
So you do have a 4 channel amp, as well as a sub amp you're putting in there?

Quote, originally posted by remusrm »nope, just 1 amp, the 4 ch. 2 ch for the inside, and 2 channels for the sub. I wouldn't do it that way. You are robbing yourself of power to all the speakers. Use the 4 channel for each of the door speakers, and use another amp solely for your sub.

Did you already buy the L5 Solobaric?...IMHO...I would recommend not using this woofer unless you want poor sound quality, but a TON of thump...if you already have it, make certain your installer knows a lot about sub enclosures before you build or it will be sloppy and not very "tight". I know because I have one. I was impressed with the amount of air the sub can move, but control is another issue totally. But that is just me and I am about as critical of a sound system as you can get

He has a custom box, so hopefully that won't be a problem.I'd want to know more about that amp. It sounds very fishy. Amps that are capable of that are generally something like 3 feet long by 1 foot wide. Bridged down it might be able to put out 1000w...You really want a seperate amp for the subs, and one for the door speakers. You can give it a shot the way you're thinking, but I don't think it'll give you the sound you want.

the amp is about 2 foot long and 1 foot wide:-) lets just put it this way. 2 ch ran the inside speakers and my old setup was this...front 2x120W/50rms blaupunks 6.5read 2x140w/50rms pioneers 6.5raned by 2 chs.i lost side to side fade since it was used for gain controlrear was running the back subthe sub was first a 300rms/600w pioneer impp. was too much power to it and put in 2 of them. ran fine.then changed that to a solobaric L5 with custom box and ran fine. the amp did dim my lights a little, since i had to cap before. the inside was damn loud, had to always turn it down, the back sub was so sould i had to use expanding fome everywhere since the thing started to come appart. uh uh. i got a ticket for loud music too..
That amp is probably a "D" class amplifier...these are usually much smaller than clas A/B amplifiers. This is partially due to the switching design on the power supply requiring huge cap banks and massive toroids. You should have no issue with the DHD...just make sure you have enough juice from your electrical or....bye bye lights on the bass hit

And the "custom box"......good luck on that.....the vibe has some pretty serious curve to the cabin so hopefully it will jibe with the box...It sounds like you are a younger driver and the Kicker will give you exactly what the younger crowd is looking for...pounding bass

younger croud? I am 26 in June. I just love music. I do not do drugs, gang bang, etc. hell never did any of those things. I just want a clean system and much bass. I listen to techno and some hip hop, but not the crap they listen this days...
Well...if you had it running before..then go for it.. Do you know where you want to put it yet? Hopefully your BestBuy has some experienced people... they can be somewhat hit and miss on that.

I don't trust any of those guys. The G6 is an INCREDIBLY complex piece of machinery compared to the Vibe, and it's just too much of a risk. Sure, there are many intelligent people working out there...but how do you know who to trust and who not to? We're holding out for the XMdirect for the G6 radio. Then we'll have it dealer installed.*end hijack*
YES!I still visit GenVibe periodically. I have not forgotten about my "original" family over here!

I do not do drugs, gang bang, etc. hell never did any of those things. And I meant no offense what so ever by my statement and apologize if I seem confrontational...I am in my mid 30's and I have been a professional in the audio industry for 18 years. My personal collection (sickness) of audio gear has in excess of 1500 speakers and I am always trying out new gear...the sound most people of younger listeners desire is not the same as it is for me or others of my age group. While I love it loud and believe me I love it loud (my Vibe does 146 dB with a TEMP system) I also want accuracy. A while back I added a Solobaric L5 to the collection for testing, as I was investigating the option of a molded enclosure that was small and fit into the body cavity of the Vibe. I built about 10 different "test" enclosures for the L5, sealed and vented and even bandpass, but the thing is just too slow...in every enclosure. Oddly enough, the vented enclosure was the best sounding alignment for this woofer and tightened up the response of the driver a bit. It hits VERY hard for one subwoofer, provided you have enough power, but not at all transient (musical). All in all, the new style of woofers (small sealed boxes, huge motor structures, low sensitivity, high excursion, and stiff suspensions) do not offer what I am looking for. The curves these woofers provide are VERY peaky and that is exaggerated when you load it into the car......end result.......one note bass. It hits one note REALLY hard, but the rest are not as obvious and it is hard to tell what the woofer is trying to reproduce.

I know what you mean about one note/sound bass. Nice and all but not really want I want. I want that deep travel. I notice the L5 do provide that if not fully powered.
