Speaker Question

Post by kwman8 »

I found a set of subs in a custom box outside. I picked them up and want to install them in my 04 Vibe with Moon and Tunes package with the stock head unit. Do I have to buy an amp or can it work with the m&T amp? What would be the easiest place to wire it into.

You could probably branch off of one of your speaker wires, but I wouldn't recommend it, it wouldn't sound very good, and it might even ruin your amp or sub(s). Best bet is to get a new amp and a scosche line converter. That would be the cheapest route for the best possible sound without getting a new head unit and amp(s).

Depends on the subs. We'd need to know what subs they are. See if there's text on the front, else you'll have to take one out and see what it is. And no, you can't run it off the M&T amp.

They are 2 Roadmaster RTS3200 6-1/2” woofers. I believe they are only 300 watts. Will it still be necessary to buy an amp?

There's no way you won't have to buy an amp. The factory amp is designed to power what's already in the car, nothing more.

Any small amplifier will do. You probably don't want to get anything really bigger than 50w or 60w x2. 6 1/2's aren't really meant for power, and if you 'found it', they may already be blown...

Yeah, that's the scosche line converter I was talking about. Like $17 at Walmart.
