Royal Purple should be changed?

Post by iinan »

I just changed my oil today and thought I would try the Royal purple, with a K&N filter. Is this a change every 3000 mile oil? Or how often should it be changed? fyi the oil was about $5.25 per quart and the filter was about $11.00

Not endorsing such extended change intervals, but for what it's worth, I inadvertently ran my Vibe 31,000 Km/19,000 mi (mostly highway) on a fill of Castrol Syntec. Fearing the worst, I had a sample analyzed when I drained it. The report came back: "All constituents within specifications. Suitable for continued use..."

hi iinan,To stay on topic, I don't think any engine oil producer says to extend your oil change interval more than what's recommended by the car's manufacturer while the car is still under warranty (except AMSoil). The Royal Purple oil, the new Mobil 1 stuff, Redline and a few other Oil producers say their product can be used in extended drain intervals but still recommend changing the Oil Filter every 3-5000 miles, or so.I am now using Royal Purple because it was available when Redline wasn't. I will change my oil between 5000 and 6000 miles because most of my driving is highway. I may extend out to 7500 but if I do, will change the Oil Filter somewhere around the 4000 mile mark. If you extend past the car's recommended oil change intervals, you run the risk of having something, that would normally be under warranty, not be covered. So, to be safe, stick with the Vibe's recommended Drain intervals or extend at your own risk.Dave

RP is a good oil but it does shear very quickly. The 5w30 thins out to 20w before 5k mi. You'll notice the motor being louder than the Redline after a while.
