Load weight

Post by etoop »

What would people recommend for a max load in the back of the vibe? I was looking at picking up 22 pound retaining wall blocks. I'm just trying to figure out how many trips I need to make without hurting my vibe?Any suggestions on how much weight? Thanks

I don't know. Owner manual should tell you from there...

ThanksAccording to the owner's manual:Quote »The Tire-Loading Information/Certification label onyour vehicle, located in the glovebox, shows how muchweight it may properly carry. The Tire-LoadingInformation label tells you the proper size, andrecommended inflation pressures for the tires on yourvehicle. It also gives you important information aboutthe number of people that can be in your vehicle and thetotal weight that you can carry. This weight is called theVehicle Capacity Weight, and includes the weight of alloccupants, cargo and all nonfactory-installed options.

I haul my ~1400 lb boat on the back of the Vibe, yeah you know you are hauling it, but I have not had any suspension problems. I would say that 1400 lbs is pushing it though.

It's not a tongue weight of 1400 lbs though, right? Is is on a trailer right? If so the tongue weight would only be 1-200 lbs max weight being placed on the Vibe. Most trailers are usually pretty balanced. For the Vibe the max capacity for passengers and cargo is 390Kg or 860lbs. So if your 180lbs then you should only load in 680lbs worth of cargo. Always subtract passenger body weight from the 860lbs maximum to determine the weight of the cargo you can load in.

Now, if your Vibe has been lowered then the max weight will be less. How, much? Your guess is as good as mine.

The boat and trailer come to around 1450 lbs. I'm not sure of the exact weight since I have modified the boat a little bit. If anything I have made the whole deal a little lighter.

regardless of the tongue weight you should find out about the tow rating. I'm sure there is someting about that in the manual or somewhere on the web. Just remember even if the vibe can pull it doesn't men it's safe, if the load is to heavy you will put MUCH stress on the braking system, this is where you need to be concearned.
