Anyone else get rear ended this weekend?

Post by Pablo1669 »

yeah, cause I surely did. The guy hit me hard enough to knock me into the car in front of me, so now the front and the rear are banged up. It happened yesterday afternoon during the Late April snow storm we are getting. F this weather.I am ok.The damage is moderate, and I don't have a digital camera, so I can't post pictures. The best part about all of it, I got a call from someone interested in buying my car today. Told him about the accident, and I don't think he's all that interested anymore

That sucks, but it's good that you are ok. Is the damage significant enough that they might total the car? Did the airbags fire?

nah, not that bad. The guy two-footed his breaks, and slowed down significantly before he slammed my car. No airbags involved. His car is much worse off then mine, which is good. screwed up my bumper a bit, and I'm hoping that he didn't damage my borla exhaust.

no real whiplash since I saw him coming and kinda braced for impact. At that point, I couldn't do anything but pray he stops in time.

Sorry to hear about that driver's accident. I'm just curious, who's responsible for the car in front of you?I know a friend who got hit the same way and was shoved into the car in front of him. The cops said he was liable because he was too close to the car in front.

I'm pretty sure it's going to fall under the other guys insurance because he hit me first. I wouldn't have hit the other guy if I wasn't hit too. It was pretty slippery out there, I'm thinking thats why I slid into the guy in front of me

I had this happen to my Mother's Civic about 10 years ago. The guy who hit the guy behind us was liable for EVERYTHING. If they try to claim you're liable for the car in front of you, argue it down. You could've been 5-10 feet behind the guy in front of you (which is a big gap when sitting stopped) and you still would've hit them. Why? Because when you get hit from behind, nearly the last thing you want to do is lay on the brake. Why? Because if you're braked, all the damage will land in the back of your car. If you let off and 'take' some of the momentum, it won't be nearly as bad. That, and when you get hit, you're fairly likely to have your foot pop off the brake. The guy that hit you should be liable for both because he either: wasn't paying attention, was going too fast, or whatever other reason!

They tried to pull that "you are liable for the car in front of you" BS on us when we were #3 in a 4-car chain-reaction rear-end collision on Christmas eve about 7 years ago. A guy in an old Dodge truck rear-ended a Suburban, who rear-ended us still hard enough to cause major damage ($3,000 worth!), and pushed us just barely into the Ford Explorer in front of us (only bent the license plate mount there). The guy in the Dodge was either underinsured or had no insurance at all, I can't remember which, and in the beginning whoever ended up representing him was trying to say that our repairs would be covered by the people in the Suburban. It was completely stupid, and it didn't work...he ended up paying it all.

the accident wasn't bad enough to total the vehicle. They will probably just order a new rear bumper, paint it, and put it on there. most of the damage was to the other guys car, so thats cool with me. I have Progressive, they rock

Hello Brian, I feel for ya bud. This happened to me about 10 yrs ago right at 11mi/Coolidge. I was at the red light and stopped. I don't know what made me look at the rearview mirror, but man, I saw this chick looking down at her radio, and she was not braking at all (driving a 4dr Chevy Lumina). I Braced for Impact, and she hit me so hard that my car's front hood slid underneath a Jeep Cherokee that was in front of me. Totalled my car. It was a four door Omni, and the frame was so bent that all my doors popped open. Luckily no one was hurt. Not even the girl. I asked her after the cop wrote up the report, what the hell she was doing. She was trying to get at a CD that was stuck in her cd player. Isn't that something, she must've been 16 yrs old too.Spent the prior winter replacing parts on that car. And just that morning I was patting myself on the back for getting it to run like new. If you need a ride to PCC, just let me know. I usually start work around 8-8:30 am.

When I got rear-ended two years ago, the person that hit me and shoved me into the Expedition in front of me had to cover everything (or rather, her insurance did).

Monday morning, we almost get hit by dumb Cadillac driver that pull out too soon. Incoming traffic hitted Cadillac passenger side and slide down to hit another car front of us at stop sign. Then bounce away from us that we're lucky not get hit. Good news is I drove my truck and leave my Vibe at home. Three cars involved in accident. We did talk to police for what happen we saw and then we went to work. Later that day, my wife called me at my work to told me that Cadillac driver cause accident and he got screwed big time that driver didn't have insurance on Cadillac, license plate expired and don't have driver license with him.

Man, I hate to hear about the accident. Hopefully they can get you fixed up! And glad to see you're doing ok too...I was in a similar situation several years ago. An Astro van stopped in front of me at a light, I did the same. Didn't have a whole lot of room betwen my crappy ol' Corisca and the van, however. Then this teenager in her lil' ol Fiat that her daddy just restored for her slams into the back of my car. I get pushed under the van (which had a pregnant occupant, man i was worried about that one, i didn't know if i would end up getting sued over the deal.) My Corsica had the Fiat wedged underneath its bumper. But insurance of the girl who hit me ended up having to pay for it all. It took a long time though, I had to drive a car all smashed up at both ends from September through late November. The car only took a few days to get fixed, the hard part was fighting with them to get my stinkin' money.Being the middleman sucks. Needless to say, after that accident, I leave one Excursion length between me and the car in front of me when I'm stopped. It ticks off fellow motorists surrounding me, but I'm just looking out for number one. lol
