Vibe bumpers built to passenger car or suv/truck standards?

Post by sfvibe »

I always assumed that since the Vibe / Matrix are based on the Corolla, its bumpers are built to passenger car standards, but my coworker thinks that Pontiac/Toyota may save $ and built them to the less stringent SUV/truck standards. Anyone know which one it is? Oh, and how did your insurance company classify your vibe?

I don't know how much this changes anything, but I looked up the Vibe/Matrix on NHTSA's (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) website (http://www.nhtsa.gov) and they categorize the vehicle as an SUV.Here is the direct link:http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/NCAP/Cars/2003SUVs.htmlAlso, they still have yet to perform/publish the crash test results.

My insurance company told me that my vibe is classified as a station wagon on my registration.

What type of insurance rates are you looking at when classified as a station wagon? I would assume the rates would be average or lower than normal.

I just got my insurance info (State Farm). Cost is $540 every 6 months (I've had a clean driving record for 5 years or so). That is going to drop a bit, since they haven't added the safety/anti-theft discounts yet.

Did State Farm classify your vibe as a wagon? That's a pretty good rate, is Antioch close enough to Milwaukee or Chicago to be considered a suburb of either one?
