OEM air filter replacement

Post by lazytiger »

When I got my oil changed at 45,000 recently, they pulled out my air filter and wanted to sell me a new one. I said no thanks, I'll take care of it myself. I got the part number (88969107) out of the manual and looked on gmpartsdirect.com. They have it for a mere $9.72, though they charge quite a bit for S&H on the first item. However, I noticed that the filter in my Vibe right now is Toyota/Denso. I was just wondering if anyone has gotten an air filter from gmpartsdirect.com. Was it AC Delco rather than Denso? Does it really matter? Is one air filter as good as another?

I'd try going to your local auto parts shop and look to see what they have. I guess it's personal preference and what you have experienced with other filters. K&N makes one that can be washed. But I believe it's relatively expensive.

The K&N drop-in is $40.00, well worth it if you are going to keep your car a while. You'll get a slight power improvement also.

I definitely am not planning on getting any aftermarket engine parts; I definitely am planning on keeping my Vibe for a long time! I'll investigate this K&N possibility. Thanks, guys.
