Post by Vibe_dude »

i just checked my rad the other day and it was wayyyyyyyyyyyyy past the low line.........its a 2003 base and i bought it used in july...i was just wondering if anyone else has noticed if there levels going down....iam scared it might be a head gasket prob...the levels should not go down at all...i guess it could have evaporated....had a 99 z24 for 4 years and it never went down.and a 01 saturn for 3.5 years and it never went down........so any one out there with this prob.the overflow tank is in a crappy spot to see.glad it was not summer yet....overheating.

If it were a head gasket problem you would know it for sure. I'd guess it's just evaporated some. I haven't had this problem as of yet. I don't think you have anything to worry about. Top it off and keep an eye on it.

Hey...I believe I remember it being quite low about 2 or 3 months after buying it. I added a little water and I don't think it went much lower after that.I had my fluid changed last Fall at a Toyota place. They filled it up closer to the "Low" line but it hasn't dropped at all. If it's over 30,000 miles, you should change the coolant anyway. Take it to a Toyota place, have em put the 50,000 stuff in and ask em to see if they notice anything. You could then record the new level where they set it and see if it drops.Dave

heh, welcome to the club... Wish I had an answer for you, but I have none... http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=12909My car has been losing coolant since the summer of '03 (bought the car in Jan of '03.) Last fall, I put a piece of masking tape on the coolant recovery tank and have been marking the level with a sharpie since... Strange but it hasn't dropped any since then... But it seems to only do that in the summer. I'm sure I'll start smelling coolant again and losing it as I have the past two summers I've owned this car..... It's very strange.I haven't been able to get anything resolved. Just like everything else, I guess I have to keep driving this piece of crap until it blows up, then maybe they'll do something about it.... Good luck to you getting that sorted out.... Probably won't be much fun!

Hope that your car isn't like mine where the stability of the coolant level is only temporary...Mine's been losing it off and on, never have been able to explain it. It sucks.

Hey bud, I would suggest you take out the engine cover and see if there is any reddish/pink crustations around the spark plugs. I just got my car in today and they told me that my head gaskets were blown and that the coolant and the oil were mixing in my engine. I had the same problem where my rad levels were low and now that my car is busted and being repaired I would suggest you take a look and bring it in to your dealer.
