I think my brother screwed up my speakers! HELP

Post by AmericanPrideMC »

I just got some new speakers for my Vibe and my brother thought that he could put them in, but I think he was wrong. The old speakers had that plastic gray thingy around the speaker and he broke it taking it off. Is that thingy even suppose to come off to change them? Someone help! How do I change the speakers?

you mean the plastic thingy, oops, I mean the speaker housing? big just as round as the speaker and secured to the door?no, you don't need it. I didn't use mine. I just secured the speaker right to the metal.

The speaker housing things are riveted to the door, so it's pretty tough to get them off without drilling out the rivets. I wouldn't worry too much about breaking them, especially if it's from the rear speakers. You have to either remove them altogether or remove the guts of the speaker (the magnet, cone, and rubber surrounds) and use the plastic part as a spacer for the new speaker. This is necessary for the front door at least; for the rear door you don't really need the old speaker at all. There's a great speaker install how-to by Cocoarl:http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=785
