Wiring from Radio to bin under shifter

Post by GMJAP »

I'd like to wire an AUX connection from my headunit down to the compartment under the shifter. I've seen the (I think it's raging's) post on removing the trim under the shifter there, but how difficult is it to run wire there from behind the radio? Has anyone done this? (I seem to recall someone saying they kept an iPod conneciton down there...)Thanks

Not hard at all. Just rmove the radio, and all the trim, and it's easy to fish wires down there...I did it for Kari for her ipod...http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=11993

It may be easier to just fish them down with the radio removed and the glove box removed. Right now my temp wires come out just to the right of the compartment.

Well, I survived watching him take all that trim off...in the end it wasn't too bad. The first time he fished it down there without the shifter cover off I believe, but the storage bin wouldn't shut because of the wire, so he had to take it off to drill a hole. You can't even tell it's there. And that way I can completely hide the whole setup...real nice. Have fun!

Not sure if it's because mine is a manual, a 2005, or both but I noticed some differences on mine:1) There were only 2 screws on the top of the center console trim, not 4. Just the top 2.3) My trim has a slot at the top of the storage bin area, that I could run the wire through, so I didn't have to drill a hole like Kari. (it's about 1" by 0.5")Turned out very nice! Now I just have the little coil of wire with my gum in the bin. Thanks for the tips everyone and raging fish for posting that awesome how-to on removing the center console.
