I am considering buying a GM Certified AWD 2003 Vibe, but it's montone Black...(Abyss??). I may prefer it with cladding(Two Tone? >;-)Is it possible to have the cladding installed? Practical?Would it be very expensive? If it IS possible, is the cladding just as secure as if it was factory done?Thank you!
Possible? I believe so. Practical? Not really. The monotones are more expensive than the 2-tones, as until '05 at least, monotone paint was an option to be added to the car, and plastic cladding was default.I really have no idea on the expense of buying/installing the cladding...you'd have to check with a dealer and/or a junkyard for prices on the pieces or installation. I would imagine it would be just as secure, though, if it was properly installed.I like the 2-tone better also, so you aren't alone. Just not sure it's practical to try to convert a monotone.
very $$$$$$$$$$$$, where were a few months ago, when i painted all my cladding, in a nut shell, the cladding will cost pretty close to $100 a piece, give or take, if you where to find cladding, keep in mind that the clips that hold the molding on are about $1 a piece, hard to take off with out breaking atleast half, so add in the moldings and about 100 clips, the the time to do it.
The monotone has cladding under the paint. It is dark grey and would be hard to see anyways. It may be possible to have the paint stripped of the existing cladding, I'm not sure if there is any difference other than the texture. You are probably better off to leave it as is because of the colour. I have a 2-tone Fusion (Sunburst II) because I drive a lot of dirt roads and thought it would be more durable.
It should be possible.. And let me be the first to offer a straight up trade for your cladding, I have the two tone cladding and would not mind trading you for your cladding. I'm thinking my lava with black cladding would look pretty darn cool. Let me know what you think. Keep in mind, there is going to be a Western PA meet coming up on April 30th.

My cladding also includes the 2004 extenders to stop the sandblasting effect on the lower cladding pieces.Damn! That is really friggin expensive!
