This is kind follows my comment towards theend of this thread:
http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=15203Well, Saturday myself and THE RED VIBE(I don't remember his name ) decided to swap springs. He had about a 2 - 2 1/2" drop (who makes blue springs with about a 2 - 2 1/2" drop?) whereas I with my Eibach Prokit springs had about a 1 1/2" drop. He wanted his higher and I wanted mine lower, so initially we were going to switch springs. After looking thorugh some instructions on a link I found in a thread on this site I decided that it would be a lot easier just to switch the entire struts, plus we would later find out that the auto hobby shop on base would want to charge us $10 per spring to do anything to them. We met up there and got the news about the springs and decided it would be easier anyway to just pull and swap entire strut assemblies. Went kind of slow ay first as we weren't really sure what were doing, and some bolts were a bit tighter than expected and kind of hard to remove, but things seemed to be going well. The first strut came of both cars fine and swapped easily. The second came off great, but when I went to put his on my car I noticed it wasn't lined up properly. Sooo, we went to have the guys who work there take it apart so I could fix it and the guy was being a real pain in the (removed). He was claiming it wouldn't change anything and all this other b/s, so I told him to just do it anyways. He took it apart and as I was trying to line it up, he said "let me know when you figure it out and I'll put it back together." He just couldn't wait 2 minutes. Well, I got it lined up finally with the help of one of the other guys working there (who wasn't an (removed)), but when I went to go find homeboy to put it back together, he decided to be an (removed) yet again and proceeded to tell me I would have to wait until HE was ready. Soooo, there I am holding the strut together with my hands for like 5 minutes so it will stay lined up and homeboy is still not around. Finally I go find THE RED VIBE and we just put it together ourselves by hand. Strut 2 done. Both rear struts were done, time to move to the front. Strut 3, no problem, and we get to the final front right strut and God decides he doesn't want us to do this. Time is inching up on us as we got there at 10 and the place closes at 4. It is about 2 at this point and we think we're on the road home. 1 strut to go and we're done. He gets his off no problem and I get the lower end of mine off the same. Then I go to the top to remove the 3 little nuts holding the final strut in place and we're done. This is where the comment from the other thread comes in. 1st 2 come off with no problem. The last is where God gave up on us. It looked a little messed up, but little did we know it was going to consume nearly the next 2 hours. First we tried the ratchet and that didn't work. It just started stripping it even more. Then we moved on to 2 different sets of biscrips? which made things worse. We tried channel locks next, also to no avail. By this point the guys were telling us to pack up and go home and come back the next day (with 3 springs of 1 height and 1 of another ), and we decided not to follow their advice. Next they suggested we try a nut splitter. That didn't happen as: 1) we couldn't get it around the nut right, and 2) we couldn't tighten the thing to save our lives. Soooooo, last option was a 3" saw. Instead of following the shopworkers advice and trying to cut the nut in half on either side and split it off, THE RED VIBE decided to shave down 1 side of the nut until it was flat almost all the way to the bolt, and then he could grip it enough to twist it off. 1 1/2 hours later we finally get done in time to drive out before they close. That evolution took a LOT longer than expected, especially since all we did was pull the entire strut assemblies and swpa them out! Well, that is where my comment came in from the prior thread. It CAN be easy, or it CAN be a PITA! Depends on how your nuts feel! I will post pics later of the before and after drop. I didn't have time to take pics during the install or we never would have gotten done!!
