Amplifier Recommendations

Replaced stock speakers with Polk Audio db650's and was disappointed with performence with the stock head unit . So looking to add an Amplifier to the stock reciever. Does anyone have any recommedations on an amplifier? The speakers are rated at 60 watts RMS 180 Peak pwr. Have gone to Crutchfield already and got there input just looking for your input.

getting a aftermarket headunit will improve your sound a whole lot more than adding an amp to the stock headunit. a aftermarket hu will put out at least 52 watts per channel and the features on it will help you adjust the sound for whats best in your car.

So your saying that rather then spend $225 on an amp and wiring kit I should opt to buy a better head unit instead?

yes, spend about $300 on a decent head unit (which you can find good ones throughout the posts on this board) and everything will sound twice as good. the stock headunit is just too limiting

The Pioneer DEHP80MP (I think that's it) has an internal MOSFET 60w amplifier (it's either 40 or 60, switchable)If you got that, you'd have to do a little bit of rewiring, as the power requirements on it are a little more than the stock radio harness can take. BUT, it'd probably stave off your need for an amplifier for a while.Interfacing with the factory radio gives you louder sound, yes, but it's not as clear as aftermarket. The stock stereo probably puts out 15watts on a good day (note how the speakers you took out have a peak of I think 20-25 watts?) Adding ANY aftermarket radio will definitely improve it.I always reccomend Pioneers. Midrange to high-end will give you the best bang for the buck in your situation, and it makes it easier to add an aftermarket amplifier later on. Alpines also have great sound, but I find their setup and display to be a bit lackluster. Plus, they're plenty more expensive.I've seen a majority of problems pop up with JVC and Kenwood (I work in car audio, i'm just stating the trends. I have no personal problems with JVC or Kenwood) Panasonics are alright, though they have their quirks too, and Sony, for the most part, doesn't get good until you get into their high-end. In my opinion.
