XM DIRECT-satellite radio

If you are interested in XM satellite radio and don't want the extra unit and wiring hanging out all over the place, XM Direct is the perfect product. It runs through your existing factory installed GM class II head unit using the display you already have. All the wires and tuner box are hidden and out of view. In fact, I have no clue where the dealer put them. I just had the XM DIRECT XMDGM100 installed in my 2004 Pontiac Vibe. It works great. I have the single disc CD with 6 speakers(moons and tunes package). The product does not show that it will work on the Vibe, but it does. I had the dealer install it and after much discussion and a forced issue on my part they tried it and it worked. They were shocked, I was not. I recommend purchasing from http://www.myradiostore.com They are more than great in their help, price, and delivery of the product. I am not sure if this works with the 6 disc CD changer, but have been told that if you have a "BAND" button on your radio, it should work. To quote "95% of all GM stock head units with a BAND button will work on the XMDGM100". Now, if for some reason yours does not, do not look to me for an answer. I started looking into this last October and I finally have this completed. I would never have gotten this far if I had not been persistant. There are enough people out there willing to tell you it won't work, but don't listen. IT DOES!!! I recommend professional installation of this product, unless you are very savy when it comes to this type of stuff. Happy XMing..............

I assume you had the Band Button? Do you have any 'mechanical' noise with low volume musical passages at higher volume? (like a soft section of a piece being played with the volume up?) That was one complaint we have heard about the aftermarket direct audio adapters for the iPods.http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=10961

I have the 2003 singel disk without moon and tunes...but I have hte BAND button...do you think it would work? How much was yours total minus installation? I've wanted XM for a while now!

No noise whatsoever. It works great. Costs a little money, but well worth the price.

Hey Merzbow. If you have the band button it should work. I was told by the folks at http://www.myradiostore.com that it will work on 95% of all units with the BAND button. They have a 21 day return policy and free shipping so it's worth a shot, believe me. Nice ride, BTW. Haven't done any upgrades to mine yet, but am starting to look into it. Congrats on getting your XM! Was wondering if you know of a place where you can get just the terk adaptor, we already have the tuner and cables....so the $300 would be a waste for us. ThanksJamie

XM direct Is a piece of Junk i have tried to put one in a 2003 vibe and it does not work I have a factory 6 cd Changer as the supplier told me I needed now I have 500.00 in it and still no XM Thanks Herm

XM Fan store dont know anything they cannot even give tech support for products they sell I had to call there supplier to find out I needed to buy a in dash cd and it still dont work Thanks Herm

If you read through the forums, the only radios that support XM Direct are 2004-2005 and they have to have the 'BAND' button instead of an 'AM/FM' button. It is also well-known that XM Direct will NOT work with the in-dash 6-Disc changer on ANY year Vibe, and it also will not work with the Navigation system.Also, XMFanStore is a great store, and if it doesn't work, you shouldn't have any problem returning it.

Since this setup has gotten fairly cheap now, I went for it. $50 or less for the correct HU [eBay], $31 for the PAC AAI-GM12 (to connect the Rio Karma)[eBay], $135 for XMDGMK (XM Direct Kit) before the $40 rebate [xmfanstore.com]. The prices quoted include shipping - we'll see if I actually get my rebate.Where do you folks recommend I mount these devices under the dash / shifter console areas and how should they be mounted?

From the prices you quoted, I wouldn't touch that setup. I got the Clarion DUZ385SAT from Crutchfield, and it came with all of the XM stuff to make it work. For the price, I don't think it can be beaten.http://www.crutchfield.com/App...=5684

I can have a cleaner install (no wires hanging from the front of the HU with my Karma hooked up) using the PAC / XM Direct combo. I encode all my music either high bitrate OGG or FLAC. I didn't drink the iPOD Kool-Aid so I don't care if the HU can display that info or not (Karma is much more music oriented, IMHO).That is a nice looking Clarion, though. $199 seems like a great price as well. One of the reviews said that it is difficult to navigate the various screens, is that true?

It's fairly easy, once you get used to it. Like I said, there aren't a slurry of options, so I pretty much just use the source button, volume, and the 1-6 program buttons.I understand the concern with "sticky fingers". I'm trying to figure out a way to remove the Clarion logo, as well as some of the other white text on the front of the unit so it looks more OEM on first glance.
