Depends on which Viper. Generally alarm/keyless is $120 at Circuit City, I think remotestart is $160 (/w alarm/keyless). The light is bunk if they're talking about the dome, it automatically comes on when you unlock the doors with the power package. Hatch is a single wire to the hatch release button in the dash.

Ours was on sale for $349, the Viper 650XV model. They added $10 for the hatch and $10 for the dome light, but I don't think the guy knew that the dome light was included with the door locks. Might have the wife call them about that tomorrow.Anyway, is that a good price? I called a few other places before and they seemed to have compettive prices. What do you guys think?

This is a while back (I picked up my 03 in Aug of 03), but I think I had my alarm put in for $200 CAD. I negotiated it down from some amount with the dealer, but I can't remember what the original price was.

I guess we should be careful of asking something as generic as the cost of a "car alarm". Very similar to asking about the price of a 2 door, 4 cylinder car. Can vary wildly depending on performance and options, no? Basic LABOUR on an alarm should run in the $80 range. Add $20 for doorlocks, $20 for hatch release. The sheer cost of the unit alone will determine the overall price. Two way products with LCD remotes are substantially more expensive than simple Bulldog alarms, you know? Also, exessively LOW prices often show up at places that don't take the time to do the job right. Using scotch-loks instead of soldering, not paying attention to shock sensor setup (there IS a right and wrong way here) etc. If you pay a reputable installer a reasonable price, you'll get a solid installation done right. However, there are pitfalls. Its easy to pay "too much" for an alarm with a big name and zero features. I've been selling Omega products for years (Excalibur and K9) with great success... The K9 Classic E has the same featureset and options list as a DEI product twice its price, and I throw it over the counter for $129 all day long....just my 0.02bmoney
