Replacement for Fog/Driving Lights

Post by michaelgt »

Now that my second fog/driving light has broken, has anybody replaced these lights? What did you replace them with? The glass is broken on both of mine, and I really liked them for running the back roads in the dark (which is every morning to work, and evenings all winter). How easy was the replacement? Thanks

Thanks! Must be I am the only one that has had both lights broken, and do not want to pay the GM replacement cost. You can find the headlights and taillights on Ebay, but none of the fog lights. They make a huge difference on the dark roads around my house. I look for to seeing the pics!

i don't know what it is but i guess these fog lights suck because i just saw that mine is cracked in half also.. i've never had problems with fog lights before but now i got this. had it less than a year and it needs to be replaced already. what is that. the bulb still works but soon to be dead. here take a look hard to tell but the arrows help.. dumb rocks

drmc1983: i can't see anything in that photo...use macro mode if you got it. i've had my vibe just under 3 years and have been through 2 windshields...but my fogs have held up like champs. pitted, probably. but i don't notice that...certainly they're not cracked though...

For the life of me, I can't figure out why my fogs aren't cracked either. The glass has held up better than the lexan used on the headlights! That defies the laws of, uh, whatever... I still have a teeny, tiny little crack on one of the headlights, thought about replacing it, but never got around to doing so...

Great Job! What size are the lights? How do you like them when driving? Did you rewire to the lights? Did you try and use the factory wiring? My one lens was cracked in first 4 months, 6k miles, and the other was broken out at 20 months, 50k miles. Even though others have not had problems, I really do not want to replace with OEM.

Even though others have not had problems, I really do not want to replace with OEM. first attempt i used total factory wiring, had to cut the ends off but used existing power and ground wiring. second time, i did the foglight modification so i could turn the fogs on and off w/o the headlights but w/ the parking lights. this time, i completely wired the fogs separate from the factory wiring and put the switch in so i could turn them on and off whenever i damn well felt! lol. and for $20-50 for the a/m fogs (minus the ones i got in nov, since those were crap) they seem to hold up pretty decent. my front windshield however.... that's a different story.

fairly easy to install. wired them completely independent of the factory wiring. the headlight bulbs i also got a walmart and so far they've burned just as bright and long (which isn't hard) as the silverstars i USED to get. i think they are the euroxenon lights, about $18/pair. i'm gonna see if i can pick up more of those fogs since they look pretty good and fit relatively well. not perfect, but close.

I'm sure it's been explained before, but how do you wire the fogs to work with the parking lamps instead of the headlights?

http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=12376i did the parking light mod, but then decided i wanted to rewire it all separate so i didn't have to have any lights on at all for the fogs to work.

Why not just use option 1? It's the same right, except you don't have to run a whole new switch?!?
