Adding Power Door Locks???

Anyone have a ballpark of what it would cost me to get power locks installed at a dealership? I don't want to do anything that will hurt the warranty so I'm assuming I would need to have the dealer install tho they are a lot more expensive. Thanks!

It was cost significantly more to do it outside the factory than it woudl to just pay for power up front...

I can't even begin to guess how much it would cost at the dealership.Apparently the Vibe's without the power package use cable-pull door locks, which are a pain to do anything with. If you go to a local shop, expect to pay $10-20 per actuator per door, plus probably $20-30 for a solenoid for the rear hatch. Plus a doorlock relay box, which is probably $20-30, and i'd reccomend a simple keyless entry system to go with it, which is about $50. The labor, however, will probably be high. If you went to Circuit City, it'd probably be $200-$300.

So with it being the cable pull what would I need to buy? So far I have only found kits that will not work with it...I know very little about cars but really want to get this done hopefully without paying an arm and a leg...should have just gotten power locks but thought I could live without them...WRONG! lol

Most good shops will install power doorlocks, actuator AND labour for $100 a door or less. This includes full feedback functions - unlock one door, they all unlock, and vice versa. You could then choose to add a controller of some kind (starter, alarm, etc) to add keyless features...bmoney

Some people have found some sort of thing that screws onto the cable to grip it, and then attatch to that. At a hardware store maybe? I can't remember where the threads are on it..Hamilton.. Which actuators are you using? All of the ones i've ever seen are actuator only, not a feedback switch.

You know the difference between a 2 wire and a 5 wire actuator? the 5 wire one has microswitches that allow feedback. The kits I've been using for like 8 years come with all the wiring, pre terminated control/relay box and the actuators. I also get bulk actuators if people don't want the feedback mechanism and simply wire a reversal rest at nothing relay pack to control them.Also, the actuators come with a rigid rod and a two-way clamp device, very much like what you speak of. I'm curious tho - if the lock is to pull up (to unlock) and push down (to lock), how could it possibly be a cable? It wouldn't be rigid enough to push down on??? I know what the locks should look like, and i've read enough posts by people on this board that don't have the power package that say the lock is cable driven. I haven't seen one in person, so I have no idea what it looks like.

It's a lever you push or pull left or right to lock/unlock.

I'm gonna look this one up on the gm service manuals....its got my interest bmoney

When someone figures it out will ya let me know what I will need to purchase to get this done? I have NO clue how that stuff works. Hopefully I can find someone to install without charging a (removed) load of cash.

i had power locks added to the 4 doors and rear hatch 2 months after buying a base with nothing on it. Total cost: $550 with 2 fobs. Tha's about half of the $ for the power package (personally, i don't care for power windows)my dealer sent me across the street to the local installer. that's where the pontiac dealer send cars for such retrofits anyway so he saved me money by sending me directly across the street.i have a son and having to unlock 4 doors to let him in was a major pain. it was worth every penny for me to have the locks installed.the only thing missing is the rear hatch window release from the dash board.sylvain
