Hello everyone-My name is Mike and I'm an 18 year old high school senior (almost done!) that lives in Upper Michigan, right next to the Wisconsin border. I don't own a Vibe, yet, but I'm hoping that, depending on what I can learn from this site about the Vibe/Matrix before I decide to buy one, that I can sell my Grand Am GT for it.I have a black 99 Pontiac Firebird that I drive in the summer. It's no V8 but I love it. So far I've put black leather into it, a Trans Am hatch, and am working on a Ram Air hood and Trans Am ground effects, but we'll see how money goes later.I also have a 2000 Grand Am GT in silver. I love my GT and just bought it in September of last year, but unfortunately, it's gas milage is less than decent as far as I am concerned, especially in town. Maybe I'm just being sensitive, but I've heard the Vibe is better on gas than the Grand Am, and perhaps just a better car overall.Any Vibe do's or don'ts or advice would be appreciated. Looking forward to this site!
Well, the do's would be get ABS. I would highly recommend it. Umm, if you plan on getting a new sound system, don't get premium sound. It is seriously a ***** to bypass that amp. Umm, other than that, it's your choice honestly of what you want exactly. If you want modibility, I would get the base fwd or GT.Inder

The Grand Am was great in its time, but was in dire need of retirement, and it came, not a moment too soon.My dad just ditched his 98 for a G6. Couldn't be happier. (Either of us!)
YES!I still visit GenVibe periodically. I have not forgotten about my "original" family over here!
Thanks for all the warm welcomes; it's nice to see that in a forum!I want to have a little bit of power behind the accelerator, but I'm not looking for a racing car or anything, and, as a future poor college student, I doubt I can afford the premium gas requried for a GT, but I was looking at the AWD for the snowy winters here.
Well, I don't know much about engine modification, and I don't care about "racing" a Vibe, personally, or any car for that matter, but I do like doing appearance modifications: grills, lights, interior kits, overlays, etc.
Welcome to the Encyclopedia of Vibe! Wow, someone from the 'U.P.' of Michigan! That's awesome. Only been to the U.P. once on a vacation-it was beautiful. The combined knowledge of the people who visit this forum is unbelievable, and some of it even applies to Vibes! LOLBe sure to enjoy your last few months of high school! Many people look back on it later as the 'time of their life'.
My 2003 Vibe Base Auto 2-tone Salsa "SalsaWagon" was built in May 2002. I acquired it in Feb 2004/Traded it in on a 2016 Honda HR-V in Feb 2018.
from your thread title I thought you just turned 13 welcome to genvibeIf you want something that is a factory option, such as moonroof or pwer windows/locks, then get the car with that already installed instead of planning to do it aftermarket later.Assuming money is not an issue. If money is a big issue, then consider buying a used one. Also, find various models and take a realistic test drive. The AWD has the best traction, but the least get up and go on dry pavement, so if power is really important to you, make sure you can live with it before you spend the money on it. I have a base and it's fine for me, but some people aren't happy with the extra power in a GT. Test drive them all.
