sigh...happened AGAIN!!!

Post by gpk99 »

thw weather here lately has been so erratic...last week we went from -30 to this week....8 above...centigrade.I've owned this Vibe now since Nov 27th.A few occasions I have noticed when getting up in the morning an accumalation of frost on the windows, which of course is normal fare for this part of the country....but on the INSIDE of the windows?????Today when I got out of work I had the same problem but only this time it hadnt quite froze on the windows...it was still wet.Water had condensed on the inside of every window inside the car to the point I had to take a towel to clean it off. I've never seen this kind of thing happen in any car I have ever driven before and it puzzles me being a new car as to why on earth this is happening to my brand new baby!!!!....lol It's to the point I am going to call the dealer and see if for some strange reason it's something that is normal with Vibe's or just what exactly it is I may be doing wrong for some reason. Just puzzling.

I'd say do give the dealer a buzz and see what they think. I think my Vibe has a water leak somewhere as well. At one point in time I did have ice on the inside windows. There were pretty good size water spots on the inside of the glass, on both the windishield and rear window, from where the ice probably melted...

One thing to keep in mind is that if you have snow or slush on your shoes when you get in the car, that is introducing moisture inside the car. If you have your heater turned on, this will slowly warm up the water that is on your floormat, this will increase the humidity in the air in your car. Higher Temp = Higher ability to hold humidity. When you turn your car off, it is warmer inside than it is outside, as the air cools inside your car, the humidity in the warmer air has to go somewhere. Think of a glass of ice water. It gathers condensation because it is colder than the surrounding air, now picture your windshied as a cold glass of water, the condensation will form on your windshield and freeze. and TAAADAAAA! Frost on the inside of your windshield. That is a very lengthy way to say, you may just be bringing water into your car on your feet. Those floor mats can hold serious amounts of water.

I agree with Poopypants. The way I keep the moisture down in the car is to not only kick the snow off my boots, but I also keep the air blowing down on the floor mats as much as I can. The high air ciculation rate will evaporate the water/snow, and increasure the humidity, but the circulation should push that extra moisture out of the car.If you get too warm, you might want to think about opening the back windows a crack to cool down and help with circulation.

my gf's car had this problem, so she had me check it out. i noticed that she had the recirculation button on, so i turned it off and the condensation went away.not sure if this is the case with your car or not.

Maybe get one of those moisture-sucker things like what you can use in the bathroom for moisture issues? It's like a little mini-bucket with water absorbsion stuff.. Try putting that in the car the night before, and see what happens?

Good idea Jahn...thanks guys for the tips...short of calling my dealer back these are very good recommends. I did think at first it has/had something to do with the recirc function but seeing as it's always a GAZILLION below and testicle-freeeeeeeezing up here all the time since i've owned this car I really havent had a chance to use that much because the car is always on defrost or the next click up to it(my recirc doesnt kick in till the next click left from the last 2----if it is kept on the last 2 settings it doesnt work...it will shut off)At any rate.....thanks for the tips.
