Chrome Accents

Post by mu_ohio »

I couldn't find another topic so here it goes. Has anyone had their chrome accents on the doors rub down to the black plastic. It happened on my passenger door from when people's knees rub against it. Will Pontiac fix this since it's wear and tear or even better, does anyone make replacement parts like carbon?

Thats strange. I think that the dealer should replace the part under warranty. If they refuse, I have found that getting very angry, acting appalled, and everything short of causing a big scene is effective in changing the minds of the service techs. If that doesn't work, demand to talk to the service manager immediately. If that fails, call Pontiac customer service. I am told that they take these things very seriously. I had climate control knobs on my 94 Grand Prix that kept breaking in cold weather. I had an extended warranty on the car and went back to a Pontiac dealer and asked for replacements. At first they refused, but after getting really angry and throwing a fit then threatening to call Detroit another service department employee showed up at the desk and gave me a bag full of more knobs than I needed (even though when I went home and read my warranty contract, it seemed that the knobs weren't covered). Its usually true what they say about the squeaky wheel getting the oil. Be the squeaky wheel if necessary.

I have the same exact problem, also the emblem on my steering wheel is rubbing off. The dealer had the BALLS to tell me. Must be the cleaning supplies you use. And the it was a "one time deal". (removed) is that suppose to mean. #1 reason GM pisses me off.

I have encountered the same problem with the both of the chrome strips on the door beginning to peel off. Not quite to black but almost like you can see the plastic coming off.. Go to link for an ok pic.. http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=2035 My dealer was great in replacement.. almost to a point of surprise.. Both entire door panels were replaced under warranty.. no backtalk what-so-ever.

The shop guys don't have a clue.. Every since the day I bought the car (one of the first off the lot), I have been the guinea pig with service. I was the first to find out that my oil changes were more expensive than others because of the toyota filter, yada, yada.. When the guys saw the flaking, they immediately replaced each panel and shipped back my faulty doors. I have yet to hear back,, but I doubt that I ever will. Oddly I can see the driver side's wear and tear, but I hardly ever have passengers, so not too sure why the passenger door was flaking?? Go figure.

I just noticed today that mine is doing this on the driver's side. Mind you, my car is only 90 km short of 85000 km, but still...I don't think they'll cover this under my extended warranty. Any word on the cost of replacement?

mine are doing the same thing on both doors. I'm making a 12,000 mile check appt. I'll bring it to their attention along with the paint issues again.
