I've been going back and forth in my head about buying an AWD vs. FWD vs. FWD with StabiliTrack. I have a 96 A4 Quattro (AWD) and really like how it handles during spotty weather. I live in Texas but rain and oily slick roads is always a concern.Does anyone have StabiliTrack or driven with it and can comment on it?Thanks,-Mike
The problem with stabilitrak is that it is incorporated into your ABS fuse as well. Like, if your ABS goes bad, so does the traction control. I would honestly get the FWD Base because it's not like you're going to be through like snow or anything. I have a FWD right now without traction control and it's fine. But mine never had the option to get that. When it comes down to it, all you really need it ABS. I just think that it would be a hassle if my traction control failed on me.Inder

Living in Texas, also, I can't see any need for AWD. Rain and slick roads, however, make ABS a must. From my understanding, Stabilitrack would be more helpful with these conditions, including hydroplaning, than AWD. Not sure if in this price range AWD would help resell in these parts, either. Especially given the premium. I mean you may make more when you sell it, but not enough to cover the more you paid to buy it. So in the end you'd actually end up out MORE money. Not sure about the point on being on the same Fuse. Has anyone had a problem with the ABS fuse blowing?

Maybe my wife's old Sunfire is just junk compared to my A4, but we both notice our AWD A4 handles much MUCH better on rainy roads than the FWD Sunfire.I think I'll buy the StabiliTrack. The theory seems very sound. Think of it as ABS for driving mode.
