first time driving in bad road conditions with awd

Post by tecton »

not as squirly as i thought it would beprobably the combonation of "insignia" tires...which look like they suck, and the fact the road looked like a snow covered mirror...it did better than i thought it did...no wait, i was down right impressed.ABS is a little strange on this car...seems like it doesnt stop the car just inhibits your drivers ability to stop the car, lol....meaning, i stopped better gently tapping the brake rather than letting abs do it for megot to do some drifting at a empty parking lot...that was loads of fun, the E-brake really works nicely...i just didnt have enough room to get it up over 25mph...i woulda tried to spin it...next time ill filmhmmother than that...no problems...and i would say that tonite is one of those nights that classifies as a night that needs AWDthumbs up to the vibe

Sounds great! Glad it does alright for ya. If I were to buy another Vibe, I'd go for an AWD in a heartbeat.

you dont need much room to maker her spin! i was out last night having some fun and got mine to spin a bit to much and did an uncontrolled 360!! all you gotta do is cut the wheel and give it plenty of gas.

Good to hear the AWD is working out for ya. Last night and this morning the roads were HORRIBLE. So I finally got to test out the new all season tires on the FWD. Went like a champ. I recommend these tires to anyone. They are made by Kelly Tire and they are the Multi-Mile H rated tire. They have tank tread on them and they handle well in the snow.

I hear what you are saying but instead of the feeling it actually prevents the lose of traction and all out sliding on the ice and snow. It gives the impression of taking longer but in fact if the car was sliding and did not have ABS it would have slid a longer distance in less time then with the ABS, that is if it was totally in a slide.

I'm still waiting for bad weather so I can test out my AWD. We have only had 2 inches so far.

I have had to use the anti-lock brakes a few times this year. Strange. Like a washboard under my foot. I never had them before. I hope that is what they are supposed to feel like. I just kept the pedal down, since that is what I was under the impression I was supposed to do. Felt like I was driving a buckboard and a horse or something. Oh wait, I never drove a horse. Well you get the idea. Well the car went straight and stopped. And since I have had to call 911 on my cell phone twice in the last week, not everyone else in CT is doing the same.

With ABS just keep pushing on the brake with firm pressure. If you are in a large open lot try doing some stearing manouvers while feeling that "washboard" sensation...
