Sirius, XM Hit Subscriber Goals

Post by ColonelPanic »

Quote »Sirius, XM Hit 2004 Subscribers Goals 12.27.2004, 10:11 AM Sirius Satellite Radio Inc. on Monday said it topped its goal of enlisting 1 million subscribers by year-end, while rival XM Satellite Radio Holdings Inc. later added that it recently surpassed 3.1 million users, its mark for 2004. Shares of Sirius and XM jumped on the news, with Sirius up 4.2 percent, or 33 cents, at $8.28, and XM gaining 14 cents, to trade at $40.06 during early Nasdaq activity. The satellite radio pioneers said strong holiday sales boosted subscriptions in a year marked by aggressive marketing initiatives as the companies raced to gain followers with flashy programming and exclusive deals to install receivers in vehicles. Sirius has been chasing after industry leader XM over the past several months, recently attracting shock jock Howard Stern with a five-year, $500 million contract and hiring Viacom veteran Mel Karmazin as its chief executive. Meanwhile, Washington-based XM countered with its debut of a show hosted by popular radio personalities Opie and Anthony, and has expanded its professional and college sports coverage and landed pacts to factory-install its receivers in General Motors Corp. and Toyota Motor Corp. vehicles.http://www.forbes.com/feeds/ap....htmlGo satellite radio! Let's hope those numbers keep increasing. That will be a good thing for us all, no matter whether you're in the XM or Sirius camp.
