headlights come on on their own when the car is off.

Post by mudinflamez »

im experiencing a really stupid problem with my 2003 vibe. i turn off the car and a few hours later the headlites would come on. this would happen at night, and when i get up in the morning my battery is dead , and i have to jump it. i took it to the dealer and they ran a check of the whole car and didnt find anything wrong with it. if anyone knows how to deal with this , please help me out.

Are your daytime running lights on? If they are, there may be a defect in those. And you may want one of the members do it or you can do it yourself.Inder

It has nothing to do with DRL.I've heard of this happening with some early production models of the Vibe and Matrix...caused by a defective relay in the headlight circuit...Go to the dealer, there should be a TSB on it.The Toyota TSB is EL001-03. I don't know the GM TSB number.

TSB --Technical Service Bulliten - There was a problem that involved either the Headlight Module or the relay..... A few of us members have had that problem.

Relays are all over the place:behind the steering wheel, above the glove box, in the engine.I don't know which of the dozens is impacted by this TSB as I have never seen the bulletin. You're better off just going to the dealer and letting them handle it.

It is the headlight switch AND the relay. Dealer will fix. For a temporary fix, when you shut the car, make sure your headlight switch is off and turn your highbeams on. This will shut off the low beam circuit.
