With all the freaky stuff happening in nature lately (these, snow in texas, etc), does anyone else feel like we're living the movie "The Day After Tomorrow?"

It is really weird, I was reading an article in Maxim magazine about earthquakes and tsunamis and volcanoes Friday night (while on the crapper of course) And they made mention of the fault that caused this earthquake and they said (if I remember correctly) this fault was due for a large earthquake.

Not even 24 hours ago, the numbers I posted added up to 14,068 lives lost... Now, we're looking at 21,994... Truly a sad event. Sri Lanka: 13,000 dead Indonesia: 4,500 dead India: 3,500 dead Thailand: 866 dead Maldives: 52 dead Malaysia: 44 dead Burma: 30 dead Bangladesh: 2 deadCan't say I've heard about such a tragedy of this scale in my short lifetime...And Poopy, man that's ironic!

So many places were just washed away - I've seen projections of 40,000+ ! Can't be prevented, but warnings COULD have been issued up to 2 hours before the waves hit some areas, had some of the poorest countries on earth spent $ for technology...

Some of the footage showed in CNN while I was waiting for a plane at the airport showed people screaming as they got washed out...Excite.com news projects 40,000 approx to. This is bad.

That sucks. I rememebr being in Patong Bay Phuket and Phi Phi Island. That island was so awesome. You could see your feet through the water forever. That island was so beautiful and to see what happened to it really sucks. Phuket is a big tourist place, really beautiful place to see. I really feel for those people.

Interesting global warming subtopic going on, but I thought the disaster was from a tsunami resulting from a strong earthquake. Earthquakes are not typically one of the predicted effects of global warming, so I don't understand how the global warming stuff ties in. A number of the affected countries didn't have tsunami warning systems. Does the USA have a tsunami warning system, or do we think we're immune?Just amazing the number of people affected by this thing.

I'd seen it mentioned earlier on the tv, that the wave traveled at a speed of 500 m.p.h..
