Programmable Door Locks

Post by BlueCrush »

I currently have my door locks set to lock and unlock when I go out of and into park. I would like to be able to start my Vibe and disconnent the remote from the keychain and lock it with the remote while the Vibe is warming up. I have not been able to do that with my current setting. Any Ideas? Thanks,Brian

Didn't know the '05 was programmable like that. You're gonna need an aftermarket system to be able to do it. More than likely, a remote starter. Most keyless entry systems will not lock with the ignition active unless it's a full remote-start system.

The wife's Aztek is in the same setting as mine, locking and unlocking out of and into park. But with her's I can start it and lock it with the keyless entry remote. Maybe it is different on the Vibe. I dunno.Brian

As you've found, the Vibe cannot be locked via the remote when the key is in the ignition. The vast majority, perhaps all other GM vehicles can be. Guess it's just a Toyota thing...

Yep. Key in igniton = remote locking disabled. From what I see, even with what is mentioned in the '05, I don't think there is a way around *this* feature... Same deal as our 03/04's have.I like to lock my car and leave it running, and not being able to use the remote or the lock switch itself when the key in the ignition was a bummer... Every GM car I've driven with keyless entry allowed you to lock w/ the remote, not so with the Vibe. Hello, Toyota! Truly their feature, AFAIK...But... If you carry two sets of keys, (I carry 3 lol) start it up, close the doors, and use the key to lock one of the outside doors. Viola, all doors will lock for you. From the driver's door, turn the key once to unlock just the driver's door, hit it again to unlock the other 3 + hatch. From the passenger's side, all you have to do is unlock the door once, it takes care of the rest for you automatically. Would be great if the friggin' remote worked, but at least we can still lock the doors I guess.

On my '04 all the doors lock with one turn of the key. However it takes two turns to unlock the passenger doors with the key. On the passenger door, one turn will unlock and lock all the doors. As for the keyless entry, why is there no short horn blast when locking the car with it? Every other car I've had with keyless did that. (Saturn, Neon) Is this a Toyota quirk? At this point I have no alarm, just the basic keyless entry system.

Yep, no audible confirmation... My '98 Malibu would chirp when locking the doors with the remote, but no visual notification. So I traded one for the other. Would like to have both though! I do believe if you have the factory alarm you do get both.

Are you talking about the Vibe's factory alarm? Nope. The optional factory security system doesn't have a confirmation honk on lock.

Really? Didn't know that! I've had a buddy with an older Corolla that had the factory alarm, it would beep when locking/unlocking... I figured that would apply here... Very interesting!

The lock system on my wife's '97 Park Avenue can be programmed about six different ways, e.g. auto-lock in drive, beeps, flashes, silence... Seems like the best approach, since you can't please everyone with any one set up.

I'm working on wiring up the old stock horn which I no longer use to beep when locking and unlocking the doors...

If you set your locks to trigger with the ignition instead of with the Park setting does the remote work with the car running? If not, it sounds like the receiver for the remote entry is disabled with ignition on and someone with a schematic may be able to tell which wire is sensing it so we can disable it.Quote, originally posted by BlueCrush »I currently have my door locks set to lock and unlock when I go out of and into park. Are you using a relay to trigger the horn when the parking lights flash? You could probably tie into your existing horns the same way rather than having the old horn also.I miss not having that chirp but I will probably put in a remote starter soon and have it that way.Still, I am more than happy to figure out ways to add options that I do not personally need just to build up a library of mods for people to do.Quote, originally posted by ragingfish »I'm working on wiring up the old stock horn which I no longer use to beep when locking and unlocking the doors...

Forgive the dumb question - how do you program the car so the door locks engage when you shift out of park? I have an '03 Vibe and the door locks are all up to me (as I generally prefer - just like headlights)!Art

Unfortunately, the '03 models don't have automatic door locks. That bugs me too, and I've been wanting to try to come up with a solution, but the project hasn't taken off yet.
