Those of you W/ problem Conti's- Got help from Conti, try this...

Post by dolfnchk »

I did this and it paid off somewhat, so I thought I would pass it along to you all. I have an 04 Vibe , I have been to the GM dealer, who informed me that all my tires were cupping badly....Conti's of course. They contacted their GM Rep, who would do NOTHING, flat out "NO" is what I got from him, called GM customer relations......same thing "No" accused me of not maintaining my vehicle, even when I said I had documented proof of all my rotates and balances, and proof that my alignment was within specs , they were complete jerks to me and still......NO. So I emailed Continental (from there website), a customer service rep called me on Monday, gave me a ref number, sent me to a NTB store, had them inspect my tires, they verified the cupping in all, not to mention told me the tires were complete JUNK and said "weak sidewalls" was why these tires do this and have so many problems. The Mgr called Cont. and the guy told him "no" he would not help me, so the mGr. put me on the phone with the Cont. guy, he kept telling me no, said to take my car to GM dealer (which I said I had done that already), told me something was wrong with my car causeing this, it wasn't the tires, and so on with excuses.....I *****ed and *****ed and then asked for his supervisor....he put me on hold for 5-10 mins , got back on and said they would give me a one time courtesy and pay for 50% for tire replacement . I took it. Thats all they would give me. He told me I had to get another set of Conti's or General tires. But the mgr. at NTB said he wasn't losing any money , he'd still get the money from them , so he let me get what I wanted. So I went with some Coopers, and they feel great. Hope this helps someone else in getting some help on their Conti's. It takes alot of yelling and complaining but it pays off. If you don't let up with them, you'll get something from them. Good Luck! If anyone needs anymore info, just let me know.

Thanks for the info... I have my snows on right now, but I was looking at my Contis in my basement the other night, and I noticed a little bit of cupping, and just weird wear on the tread in general... Maybe I'll get my dealer to measure the tread depth for me when I get them put back on in the Spring. The first I learned of the Contis was when I took my car in for its first oil change... The service guy gave me my bill and said "that's a heck of a lot cheaper than the other Vibe's bill." I said "pardon?" He told me that a guy with a one year old '03 was replacing all four tires. I said that one year doesn't sound right, but he said that the Contis are "sticky sport tires" so they wear out quicker than normal. I just think it's because they're junk, lol. Thanks for the info!

My conti's haven't been too bad - nothing noticeable at least. Right now I have Cooper winter tires on though.
