burning out

Post by damronjr »

Brought on by another thread saying someone was going to make a video of them burning out in their Vibe, how exactly would you do that? I know in my S-10 if I held the brakes and mashed the gas it would peel out without moving. However, with the Vibe being front wheel drive, if you hold the brakes, does it not lock up the front brakes, thus preventing you from burning out? Or in FF cars does it lock the back brakes? Just curious. Haven't tried it yet due to lack of $$ for new tires

I guess you could use the parking brake to lock the rear wheels.

My parking brake doesn't lock anything. I tried pulling it while I was driving and it didn't even attempt to stop the car. It seems to work when you put it on then try to drive, but not WHILE I am already driving. Maybe mine is broke?!?

i just rev it up to about 6000, let the clutch to about 95% for a split second, then let it out to 100%, burns like crazy, if i pull the ebrake it eventually starts to drag the car once it catches grip ... only done the ebrake thing once, but had alot of hard starts with a burn.

It was discussed a little here: http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=10070 I never got around to making a video with the Vibe before I sold it. I did try a few burnouts, and got horrible axle hop. A GT's firmer struts may help that problem though.

i mean i put it in 1st gear, push the clutch all the way down, rev upto 6000 or so, left the clutch upto about 95% for a split second, then left it out completly ... while flooring it at this point, it usually burns out untill i let off of the gas, will do it in second gear spinning at around 100km/h when wet or cold with the dunlops on there.

On the auto tranny, you have to wait for some wet weather. Dry weather, you'll get nothing but traction. But in the rain or snow, watch out. I have done the handle brake pull before, it works on mine. Merzbow knows a little something about this too. So, you may want to consult him Inder

If your parking brake is not locking the back wheels, get it fixed, or it won't do it's job when you need it...On a side note, engaging the rear brakes via the p-brake while moving is pretty senseless...you'll destroy your brakes...and that is NOT covered by warranty!

Ok, tried it for a sec this morning (the E-brake method). Stopped at a stop sign here on base (5:30am so it is a ghost town, especially way back here where I work!), pulled the E-brake, and hit the gas. Fronts started turning but the car did move forward some. Might try it again later longer when I am ready to get new tires! The ones I have are already balding! Thanks guys for the inputs.

Yeah, I also would not recommend doing that in dry weather. So, yeah. Just be careful with that.Inder
