A question about rotors.

Post by DavidPIL »

Hi all..I posted a few months back in this forum about my rear brakes clicking or popping... see the thread---> http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=13383 .I decided to investigate things on my own. while manually spinning the (Driver's side) wheel, there definitely seems to be a warp of some sort. Not visually noticed but I can hear scraping on about 1/4th of the rotor without any brake pressure. My question is... in August I got new wheels. They (Tires Plus) didn't put the Hubcentric rings on because they didn't know the car needed em. Drive for maybe 4000 miles with some noticable wobble up front, who knows how much in back. Could this wobble have caused my rotors to warp slightly? I fear this is the case because the popping started about a month afterwards. I don't notice the brake pedal pulsing when pressed so I think the warp is slight, but just enough to cause there to be some uneven brake pad pressure.help me if you can!Dave

Highly unlikely that mislocated wheels could cause this. It is possible to warp drums/rotors by over-torquing the lug nuts, but the Vibe's wheel studs aren't all that strong (they fail at ~ 100 ft-lb.) so that's also unlikely.o Is there any change in wheel drag as you rotate it through a revolution? o Do you always use the parking brake? If used only occasionally, it can corrode and stick, possibly causing the noise.o Try putting the park brake on one click at a time and rotating the offending wheel, to see if this produces more noise or drag at the same point as the present noise.o Try having someone slowly ease on the regular brake while you rotate the wheel and see if this changes the noise or causes erratic drag.o Believe it or not, I once had a very similar scrapping sound that turned out to be a dry leaf stuck in the wheel!O Report results of above and the VCB (Vibe Collective Brain) will ponder the data.
