oil for high mileage engines

I see advertised motor oils for engines with high mileage, but I don't get it. What makes an oil special for high mileage engines, and if that stuff is good for high mileage engines, why isn't it good for low mileage engines too?

Here's an interesting article I found while searching for your answer. http://www.canadiandriver.com/...l.htmSounds like the "high mileage" oils contain other ingredients that are supposed to help revive and retain performance from engine seals and gaskets and so on. You probably could use the high mileage oil in a new engine, but it's more expensive than conventional oil. Synthetic oil is more expensive and is probably better for high mileage engines too.

If you use a sythetic from day one...You should never need any other oil...Typically the "higher mileage" oils are a Synthetic blend and are better for those ppl who want to "revive" (term used loosely) their engines from years of conventional oil use.

Fram oil filters are bad? I always thought that they were supposed to be good. Dammit! I have one that I bought months back now and haven't used yet. It's probably too late now to take it back or the receipt is long lost anyway. Ugh!
