Well, it looks like my new Vibe will have to wait.I was in a car accident yesterday. Typically, I drive an '87 Mercury Grand Marquis, but with all its problems, it can't possibly get me to work and back everyday. I work at the Nintendo Distribution Center at North Bend, WA. It's about 35 miles away. So, I usually borrow my Guardians car, which is a 2000 Ford Escort ZX2. As I was on my way to fill it up, a red Ford Contour pulled out in front of me. I tried to swerve around it (you can see it from the damage), but I ended up hitting it dead in the middle. If I hadn't of swerved, I would have hit the driver side dead on, and he would most likely be injured. So, being my first accident, I'm scared to death. A woman comes to me and asks me if I need a witness, asks me if I'm all right, etc. I'm dazed and barely responding, so she calls the police for me. The other driver tells me he is unlicensed and uninsured (he hopped out of his car on his cell phone, makes me wonder if he was talking on it to begin with), and that his girlfriend is coming who is licensed and insured.Well, a grey car arrives after I have moved the Escort to the side so traffic can come through. He hops in the grey car and a young woman comes out, and it speeds off. She tells me to tell the police that she was driving. The witness tells me not to, to tell the truth, because the woman could try to claim I was speeding. The police arrive and I'm still dazed, ears still ringing, the adrenaline still running through my body. They ask me questions and I tell them I've never been in a wreck before, so they tell me they'll help me through it.Eventually, the girl relents she's not the driver, and her father arrives and claims he's the driver. I tell the officer's he is not, and they start arresting her. She tells them she'll call him and tell him to come, so they take the cuffs off. My guardians arrive and call a tow truck, we get a case number, I get taken home. They tell me that it is clear liability, a "no fault accident" on my part. Relieving, but I'm still shocked and dazed, even half an hour after the wreck. So, now my guardian is down a vehicle and has to rent one. My vehicle can't get to North Bend, so I have to go buy a new one. I can't afford the Vibe right now. I tried, but I couldn't. The GM in the Driveway # I got from michaelgt was not accepted. They said it did not count towards the Vibe. Instead, I ended up buying a used 2000 Dodge Stratus that had 41k on it. It was about $7000. I also couldn't get the Vibe because my insurance company categorizes the Vibe as a sports car. It quadrupled my insurance from $172 a month to almost $700 a month. It was ridiculous. I always heard it got the hatchback/wagon discount. So, now I'm going to be driving the Dodge Stratus for a while. Hopefully the Vibe sticks around, and one of these years, I'll try again...Thanks for everything everyone. I'm still a little shaken up, but I have never met such a friendly community before. I figure I'll hang around for a while, follow what they do with the Vibe. I still intend to get one eventually. I hope.Well, cheers.

That sucks man. I can't believe that the driver ran away from the scene! I hope that he gets charged for that too!Take care.

That might be why my insurance was always so high on it, but nowhere did it say it was a sportscar. That really does suck...just glad you made it out okay and without injury!

$700 a month or year? $700 a month sounds just a tad steap to me. I would tell that insurance company to shove my new car up their (removed) and go through a different company. Sports car my (removed). Has the freakin' insurance company ever driven a Vibe? Just because the same engine powers a Lotus don't make the Vibe a Ferrari. That sucks you couldn't get the car you wanted, just have to wait a little longer I guess, good luck.
Glad to hear that you were OK most of all.I can't believe that they classified it as a sports car either! Progressive classifies my Vibe GT as a 4-door wagon... that nice and much more inexpensive class!Sorry to hear that the Vibe didn't work out for you. I hope you can get one someday in the future, though! Even if you don't have a Vibe, we'll still be glad to have you around on GenVibe!

Hey, thanks everyone. Other than being really really sore, I'm fine. I hope the car can be repaired, but I'm supposed to find that out Monday. My guardian said she would have been angry if I had been hurt, but otherwise, "it's just a car."Yeah, it was about $700 a month. They said it was about 8500 a year, depending on the options that vehicle had. I currently pay $172 a month insurance."An Insurance Co. classifies a 4dr base Vibe as a sports car?????"They said the Vibe was an "intermediate sports vehicle." I don't know what the hell that means, but as far as I'm concerned, it's a damn hatchback. I don't know what they're thinking. They called the Escort a sports car too.The dealer that sold me the Stratus actually gave me $300 for that Mercury. Last I checked, it was $188 KBB."I can't believe that the driver ran away from the scene! I hope that he gets charged for that too!" They arrested her and said when he was caught, he was going to jail for at least a weekend. They almost arrested the father as well. It was scary saying it wasn't him only to have him glare at me..."I would tell that insurance company to shove my new car up their (removed) and go through a different company." I plan to move to State Farm in the near future. Calling the Vibe a sports car just to rack up the price is too much for me."That sucks you couldn't get the car you wanted, just have to wait a little longer I guess, good luck."Yeah, it happens. I'll get one eventually, as long as they make them. I plan on it being my next car, so hopefully next time I search for a car, it's not a last minute scramble. I have to work more and wait longer for her, so she'll be even sweeter when I finally get her. Thanks everyone."Even if you don't have a Vibe, we'll still be glad to have you around on GenVibe!"Hey, thanks! I think I'll definitely be sticking around now. Don't go picking on my Stratus, now.

Hey man, Sorry to hear what happened man. Hope you're alright . Yeah, that guy should seriously get charged for what he did. I would press charges against him man. I would be like, what should I say first? No license/insurance or the fact that he fled the scene of the accident. It's good that your guardian is taking this as well as she is and it seems that she really cares. That's always a plus . Inder
