Hi!I'm new to GenVibe. I've been lurking around GenVibe for a couple of months. Since then, my family says I'm obsessing over it. They say I tend to obsessive over certain things. I think it creates loyalty. A little about me... I'm 18, graduated high school earlier this year, I attend ITT Tech at Seattle, WA, and I'm trying to get into the field of Information Technology. Right now, I drive an '87 Mercury Grand Marquis, which gets a lovely 10 miles to the gallon. So, I haven't gotten a Vibe yet. I have every intention of doing so, and I was aiming at going for one in January. I do have a couple of minor questions though...- Do they still let you have two-tone coloring in the 05? All the ones I've seen in the dealership lists so far are monotone. I like the two-tone Neptune, personally.- I haven't test-driven one yet, but what is that digital display by the speedometer? Pics don't show it clearly. I figured it either displayed the MPH digitally or the temperature, but it's just a little thing I'm curious about.Otherwise, this would be my first new car (and I think it'd be a good starting choice, it gets great gas mileage, it's modern, versatile, and qualifies for the "wagon" insurance discount), and if anyone has any tips for when I go to buy, that'd be great.

YES!I still visit GenVibe periodically. I have not forgotten about my "original" family over here!
Ohh, nifty. Curious, do you know why they delayed two-tone? I hope it really does come back as an option by that time...I just read in another thread that the panels do not light up red in the '05. What colour are they? All pics show them red or reddish-orange.Thanks for the welcome! There's a wealth of information here... Can't wait to join the crowd of proud Vibe owners.

I was thinking Base. I'm trying to keep it as affordable as possible. I was considering AWD, but I do not believe I'll really need it. I will go for the StabiliTrak though. I do hope they have two-tone by then, but I guess it wouldn't be too much of a biggie.I'd probably prefer red-white, but since I don't have a choice, even if I don't end up liking it, it'll hafta grow on me. It'd take a lot to deter me from going after a Vibe.

Welcome to the Encyclopedia of Vibe! You might consider a used Vibe with remaining factory warranty. That's what I did in February. It might help you get out of your 10 mpg Mercury sooner!
My 2003 Vibe Base Auto 2-tone Salsa "SalsaWagon" was built in May 2002. I acquired it in Feb 2004/Traded it in on a 2016 Honda HR-V in Feb 2018.
Thanks for the tip, kostby.I'll probably be waiting until January either way it goes. If nothing else, just to save as much as I can for a down payment.I actually like the '05 better... It looks like many others do not agree, but if I find out a good deal on a used '04, I'll go for it.

I can try, but I don't know if I can wait that long. I don't even own the car yet, and I've fallen in love with it. It won't be long before I go looking for a test drive. It's hard enough waiting until January, but I heard that the more you have to put down, the better deal you'll get.I do have a question though. It seems to me that if you finance through GMAC, you get better deals than through credit unions (which is interesting, since CU's usually have awesome advantages over regular banks). Is what I'm assuming from this correct, that it would be better to finance through GMAC?

Is what I'm assuming from this correct, that it would be better to finance through GMAC?You would need to talk to the dealer and the credit union to find out the terms and rates. Sometimes manufacturers advertise like "$2000 rebate/0% financing" but it's an either/or, so if you take the cash rebate, you can't get the 0% financing, or taking the financing means no cash rebate. It might be better to take the cash rebate and finance it elsewhere, but that depends on what the terms and rates are that you can get at the time. I don't know what the deals are now or what they'll be when you do buy, so be sure you understand it all before you commit, because even though the Vibe is not an expensive car, it's still a lot of money.
You can take the rebate and finance elsewhere? Then again, it looks like it's more advantageous to go for 0.0% if I can. This can get confusing...I emailed Pontiac about the two-tone, and they said two-tone development begins in November. Yay! Well, yay if I end up getting a new one. I guess it all depends.
