Preset Radio stations change on their own with stock Radio

Post by thorntcl »

I have an annoying problem of my preset stations changing automatically to another preset station.I suppose I'll have to take this into the shop, but wondering if others have had this same problem.I'm in ottawa and have a station set to 93.9 (Bob FM) #3 and I have another station set to 100.3 (Majic 100) - #5 preset. When I select #5 (supposed to be Majic) then #3 station comes up and vice versa. Or if I select #5 then the right station comes up, but then a couple minutes later it will switch to the other station. This wouldn't be so bad, but after a while it will switch back and forth between the two stations.I then tried changing the presets with multiple instances of Bob FM and Majic 100 on several other presets, but crazy thing is the stations kept changing to one another. I went to FM2 and tried setting the presets there for the channels and so far they haven't jumped around too much.My guess is I will have to unhook the battery and free up the memory on the radio. Is that the best thing to do here? Most bizarre thing I've seen...

That's pretty weird alright. The radios have some features that I've never been able to get to work for me, maybe they are for you.Do you have the lit up? How about the PROGRAM stuff? Also, I think that there is supposed to be an automatic channel switching capability, if one signal drops then it switches to another . If you hold the AM/FM button in, it should beep and say either AF ON or AF OFF. Get it to say AF OFF and see if the problem is still there.welcome to the site, what year/color/options did you get?

Thanks Joatman, is not lit up as there aren't any TRAF stations in Ottawa (CAN)I turned off the AF (thanks for the tip). I'll have to test for a bit to see if that helps. Now when I select the station the Station id doesn't come up right away, but then it flashes the wrong id for a second before it shows the correct station (only happens for these two stations and no other radio stations)Bought Sept 1st my 2004 Vibe with 180 km to start and now 4100 km (~2500 miles) after a month. My black abyss is a basic Vibe, just looking to tint and add auto start/lock...Off for the weekend so may not reply right away...Have to see if I can rack up some more mileage on my car. Getting terrible gas mileage (consistently under 10 L/ 100 km which is under 30 mpg) No lead foot (just combo city/hwy mileage) so will have to bring it into dealer to see if they can check for faulty sensor or something.Cheersthor...

I don't know if the AF thing will help or not, but it's all I could think of to try before you take it in to the dealer. I've never noticed any effect of the AF function on mine, even when I deliberately tried to make it do something. I like the abyss color, but I probably wouldn't keep a black one clean enough to look good,

you da mon, joatmon...I've been using the radio for a while now without any problems after turning off the AF feature. I have no idea why that feature is really used, but it just caused problems for me...Now I just have to work on the poor gas mileage on the car. (I think they overfilled the automatic transmission fluid). Also getting a whiff of antifreeze now and the radiator reservoir is slowly going down so will have to go to the dealer anyway...Abyss is nice, but yes a bit of upkeep to keep it looking great...

Glad your radio isn;t haunted anymore If you get any help from the dealer on the bad gas mileage, be sure to let us know what they did. I get an occaisional whiff of antifreeze smell, but haven't seen any drop in the coolant level. Get it fixed while still under warranty, heater cores are usually a real pain to swap out.
