when i am listening to the radio, cd, or even the fm modulator, i always hear a constant "shhhhhhh" coming out of the speakers, it is very noticable when songs are changing and tehres that 2 seconds of nothing. When a song starts its still there but is less noticable when it is turned up, during non percussion vocals it is also very easy to notice. Anyone have any idea why its doing this and what to do about it ? --> my guesse is that the stupid amp is trying to amplify nothing and therefor sending noise to the speakers. Any ideas or solutions will help, thx.
Did you get the moons and toons package with the amp? If so you might be getting an over amplification? Are you using the stock head unit or did you put in a new one?
Quote, originally posted by platinum_ »i have the M&T amp, it is the one i was reffering to in my post, and i do still have the stock 1cd unit. thx.FM modulator, is this an add on? if so that would be the first place i'd look
thanks for the links, i read through them and it seems there are a few people like me that constantly hear the noise, and then those that only hear it when the car is turned off. unfourtunatly there was nothing in there that could help , though i do believe that changing the head unit may help. if not, then getting rid of the M&T amp will for sure. any audio experts please please help. thx.
its the amp for sure, i get the same thing when i turn up my computer speakers and theres nothing playing (but they cant be worth over $20), it really isnt something the M&T amp should do, and i have noticed that my home theatre doesnt do it either, but alot of cheaper computer speakers, cheap cd players and etc. will give the noise when there is nothing playing, its just what happens when you try to amplify random noise coming through the wires. i just hope there is some kind of solution, i'll see what happens with a new head unit, if that doesnt do it then a new amp is gonna have to go in, i cant stand the noise.
Someone who really knows his stuff is "theimportscene" and "Jahntassa". They both know their stuff very well. So, if you want to, you can PM em and ask em.Inder

My solution is usually taking the M&T amp out of the equation, and getting some brandy new aftermarket speakers. That way, any problems there may be would be with the newer headunit, and the chances of that newer HU being the culprit are pretty small. But...I don't have the M&T, and nobody nearby to really experiment with it...so i'm at a loss to help the actual issue.

The 'white noise' is a documented (but apparently unsolved) problem with early '03's with the Moon & Tunes package, short of replacing the M&T amp.I assumed they fixed it in later model years, because I haven't seen it reported lately, but maybe not. What year is your Vibe? The problem is most apparent immediately for 20 seconds or so after the engine is turned off, (because nothing else is making noise) but, it's ALWAYS there, just covered up by road noise and/or music most of the time. If you have high frequency hearing loss, you'll probably never notice it!Someone has suggested that using (better) shielded cables between the HU and the amp and (better) shielded speaker cables MIGHT help the problem, but basically, it seems to be the M&T amp generating the white noise in the first place.
My 2003 Vibe Base Auto 2-tone Salsa "SalsaWagon" was built in May 2002. I acquired it in Feb 2004/Traded it in on a 2016 Honda HR-V in Feb 2018.
Not sure what's classified as "early"...but I have an '03 born in October '02, and I've never had a white noise problem. I do get the thing where it amplifies the "squeak" of changing tracks on a CD, but there's no hiss or anything. If they did fix it with later M&T amps, then I would definitely go with the warranty repair thing, if you're still under warranty. It's not supposed to do that, so see if you can get them to exchange the amp.
mine is a 2003 model, but the sticker says 2002, so i suppose mine would be considered an early model 2003. I honestly would care if it only did it when i turned the car off or at certain times, but it does it constantly, never stops, its very annoying.
I have a early 03 with m/t and i don't have this problem. did you have the problem before you installed the FM modulator? I ask this because that is what the dealer would ask. just trying to help fix the problem, and that is go back to square one.
"shrugs" I've never had a problem with the dealer (electronically anyway) my CD player scrapped the CD's whenever i put on the brakes, the exchanged it no problem.
