A question about Headlight Wattages

Post by DavidPIL »

Hello all...I've been searching for the best headlight bulb for the money. Went through 2 sets of Silverstars and my car is only 14 months old so I'm off to try new things. I was doing a little research into different bulbs. Saw the Eurodezigns some time ago but not too sure I want to go that route. Bought some Eurolite Fusions from a local accesory dealer for the fogs. The light is noticably whiter than the SS fogs. I did a left to right comparison. Now, I'm considering them for the headlights but notice the wattages for the H4SB is 65/45. The Silverstars and Eurolites were 60/55. Is the 60/55 watt rating normal or is it possible that the additional 10 watts for the low beam could be causing the early burn-outs in the SS? Also, if the Eurolites are just as bright but at 10 watts lower, wouldn't you think they should last longer, as long as they're not too cheaply manufactured?I'm probably going to order the Eurolite Fusions for my Vibe today then I guess I'll see for myself but I was wondering if there was any input on this from the masses...Dave

I do believe that the 9003 is rated at 65W high / 55W low, typically. So the Eurolites are a bit lower wattage than the norm for the low. So, I would think with the lower power consumption, which would translate into less heat, you may squeeze a bit more life out of the Eurolites.

It would depend on how and what the bulb/filament are made of.

Apparently the wattages are marked wrong on their website. They are the standard 60/55 so most of the questions I asked are moot.I did, however, do a comparison with the Silverstars I still have. The bulb is a SuperBlue so the light itself is very white. More so that the Silverstars. I would guess the difference is similar as between the SS and the OEMs. I'm not going to praise these bulbs over any other people are trying until I have some idea how long they will last. I've heard mixed reviews on longevity with the Eurolites but the Fusions are a new line so maybe they're a bit better. In any case, my auto accessory place had to order them. They sell the Fusions for $24.99 but because of some ordering price, I got the H4's for $19.99. Still better than the Silverstar's $37.49 price at Wally World.Oh, and btw, when I got the bulbs, I also picked up my K&N Typhoon Installed it and it's running great. Again, a decent price at only $209. THe install wasn't too bad except they kept referring to "Supplied Clamps" for the vacuum hoses where there weren't any supplied. Just used what was existing on the existing hoses though and it worked fine.Dave
