New front splash guards for the 2-tone

Post by ColonelPanic »

I installed my new pair of splash guards this morning... I may have missed them somewhere along the line, but I don't remember seeing any pics of the new design. So I thought I would post a few for those interested.I had hoped to be able to take pics of the two styles side-by-side. Unfortunately, the dealer kept my old set when they replaced the cladding last week and realized the old splash guards wouldn't fit. And I didn't take any pics of the original ones while I was installing them. I ordered my set from GM Parts Direct, part number 12499855 - cost of $21.00. So, if you have a 2-tone 2004 Vibe, or a 2-tone 2003 with the revised cladding such as I have, that's the part you need. I'm assuming that the above part number would also work for a 2005 2-tone, but with them not being out yet, hard to say if these will work.

I swear by them too, very good investment... I've only been without them on the front since Friday, but the amount of gunk thrown on the cladding in such a short time was amazing.

well, i just ordered my set...hopefully get them on by the end of the week.i've never had flaps on any of my cars so this'll be a first....you do realize my decision was very strongly influenced by the comments on this board/this thread!!
I have signatures turned off so I'm not even sure what mine says in this space!

How much ground clearance is there from the bottom of the flap to the ground? I've got a 2" drop and i would probably have to trim them down if i got a set.

I'll check it out for you tomorrow... Can't say for sure, but I think they may hang down a bit lower than the old ones did with the original cladding. I would say that you may be able to use them, until you hit something. Atomb, you'll like them... Keeps so much mud, tar, and whatever other junk off the cladding.

Which one will it be for a Vibe 2005 Monotone.

Post by PopeyeFAFL »

I think, I'm a bit mixed up here, with all these posts on the Splash Guard. If you have a Vibe 2005 Monotone, which Splash Guard (front & back) do I need ? (the exact GM part will be appreciated).I think the 2005 Monotone lower cladding does not bulged out as much as the two tones (am I right saying that ?).Is the long time awaited 2004 Splash Guard (I think it was for the two tones Model) will do ?Thanks in advance.P.S.: I know that my Pontiac Dealership told me that they were not available yet (this was in mid August 2004).

The part number for the front set is 12498056 and rear set is 12498057.Quote, originally posted by PopeyeFAFL »I think the 2005 Monotone lower cladding does not bulged out as much as the two tones (am I right saying that ?).Correct. Monotone Vibes have remained unchanged in their lower cladding since the 2003 model year.Quote, originally posted by PopeyeFAFL »Is the long time awaited 2004 Splash Guard (I think it was for the two tones Model) will do ?These "2004 Front Flaps" were redesigned for those 2004-05 two-tone owners that have the modified lower cladding, or those 2003 two-tone owners that had their dealer swap out the cladding for the new design due to high wear.Hope that helps. It does get confusing.

I'm still puzzled, if this is true, how come my Pontiac Dealership (after I show them the photo of these Splash Guard, comparing 03 & 04 two tones from Genvibe site) told me there was no problems using 2004 Splash Guard and then call me at work the day they were preparing my Vibe to tell me that they won't fit, and that they need to get the 2005 Version (not Back Order, just not yet out at the time, that was in mid August 2004).I did get them to add on my contract, that they owe me these Splash Guard (and the free installation) as soon as they get available. You see, it does not get any clearer ?

I'll get a definitive answer this week on the '05s (just to be 100%) and post back unless someone else w/ firm '05 details beats me.

looking at my 04 (May...which ironicall also has 05 rear window washer nozzle) and the 05 the guy at work just bought; the "04" flaps i'm getting will not fit on the 05. The side panel on my car angles out and away from the car whereas the 05 goes straight down and under (*like the 03's i've seen).did i just stir up the silt on the bottom of the pond??

I would get them, but my grey cladding is already so fu%*ed up that I am not going to spend the extra money on it. If I had the monotone package like Mavrik, I would not leave the dealership without them on.

scherry2, I measured the clearance this evening. It looks like from the bottom edge of the front guards to the ground is right around 3.5". The rears have in the neighborhood of 5.5 inches clearance. And popeye, that certainly is confusing! As it stands now, we have at least three different part numbers, two of those are for the front, depending on what you have. Hang in there, we'll figure this out. If it helps, I dug up a pic of my car when I had the old cladding and the original splash guards... You can compare it to the second pic I posted in this thread to see the differences between the two. Those like in the pic attached are the ones that will work with all 03's - 2 tone and mono, provided the cladding hasn't been replaced, and will work with '04 monotones as well. '05, well, I think that's up in the air until we get a confirmation. If they haven't changed the cladding, those will probably work as well. Hope this will help!

So, we have not heard back from you on these Splash Guard, do you have an answer ?So far, from what I read, above, no one is taking about a 2005 Vibe Monotone and which Splash Guard I need.Winter is almost here, for us in Québec, I need to know if I put pressure on my dealership (by telling him the serial # of these mud flap, so he will stop saying they are B.O.) or switch to plan B (buy cheap one, front only, for one season). Thanks in advance.P.S.: I already paid for these Back Order flaps (installation free of charge), in fact this was bundled with the cost of my Vibe and put at 0% financing for three years, therefore I hardly paid anything so far.

i'm currently sitting at my desk, looking out my window at my 2004 vibe parked next to my co-worker's 2005 vibe. I can safely say that the 2004 front flaps will not work on the 2005.you will need the 2003 front flaps for the 2005.

Thanks for that information, but could you be more precise:That 2004 of yours, it is a Monotone or 2-tone ? (I assumed the 2005 is Monotone, since no one heard of a 2-tone 2005, yet). Now if you hinted that the 2003 front flap will work on a 2005 Monotone, that 2003 that you are taking about, will that be a 2-tone or a Monotone ?For the rear wheel, which one is needed for a 2005 Monotone ?P.S.: Sorry for asking that Vibe forum again, but I kept getting partial answer that are not really leading me anywhere.

based on visual inspection (i just ran out to the parking lot!)...My 2004 is 2 tone. yes, the 2005 is mono (i don't think there are 2 tone '05?)the reason why the 2004 front flap won't work is due to the moulded section to accomodate the side panel on the 2004. The 'side-skirt' (lack of better word?) sticks out on the 2004 2 tone. So the front flap has a moulded section which goes around the side skirt. The 2003 (2004 monotone?) and 2005 have side skirts that bend under the car (don't stick out). So the obvious assumption would be that they would all use the same front flap.as for the back, i am quite sure there is only one design as the parts guy mentioned this when i ordered mine from the dealer a week or so ago.based on that, i'd order the 2003/2004 MONO front flap for your 2005.and the standard rear flap (should work on all years)....maybe it would have been easier to say: "You only need to buy a special front flap if you're driving a 2004 two-tone" but from a few comments, i think there are EARLY 2004 two tone models that didn't come out with the 'sticking out side skirt'.hope that helps!i'll go out and take some pictures today and post....
