Hopefully Hope's is not one of those!exactly! and that's what i'm concerned about. been back 2 full days now and things are very busy! unfortunately, some of my big sales i've been working on have gone to other people. i can understand they don't want to just sit on them, but at the same time, the newbies have no clue what they're doing. so i have one of the newbies, begging to give back one of my big sales if the boss will let her! lol. she told me, i can understand why you are so busy and don't get anything done. how can you? your phone rings off the hook, your clients will only talk to you, and i have no clue or anyone else for that matter, what the hell is going on w/ it, or how to fix it! and one of my bosses has been grumbling about my absence saying, "well some of your accounts aren't being worked on properly. why didn't you just call the contact and get this going? i called and they are wanting to move." he neglects to go through and read the notes since January about us having to wait until we had the correct software solution, which we now have that was availably last month! so i'm like DUH! something about having 2 organs exploding in my body kinda prevented me from picking up the damn phone! lol but already closed one sale today, have about 3 appts tomorrow and managed to salvage and save another 3 large clients from giving us the old heave ho, kick out the door! so the big boss is happy i'm back, while the other boss is grumbling that i was gone. oh well...just gotta kick some (removed) the next few months!

I'm of the "you only wear it once" philosophy too. I didn't pay $300 or $400 for either one of my prom dresses...one was $40 on a clearance rack and the other was $30. Originally $300 or $400 dresses from the season before, less of a chance that someone else would be wearing my dress, and serious cost savings.

Both of mine are pretty plain...one is blue and one is silver, both are satin...one has crepe-ish stuff on it and the other doesn't, but no bows or flowers or lace. I still have the silver one, and the shoes that go with it, should I ever need a formalish dress.

I have a dress my mom wore in my aunt's wedding when I was like 9...LOL It's a beautiful color, and no lace or bows or anything, but the puffy sleeves...which I guess I could take off and make it into a sheath dress. Hmmmmmm... *looks at the sewing machine* And I think I'd start getting on the dress store or whoever you ordered that from...you should have it by now because don't they still have to alter it after it comes in?

We got in cash around 8000$ in gifts...so basically the wedding cost us about 7,000$We had a blast, everyone had a great time and I have GOOD memories of the wedding day (even if it rained like hell). It was a success and if I had to go back in time to change something, I would decline the offer....but that's cdn right? and how long did you plan the wedding? short engagement or long? usually long engagements tend to cost more but then you can save up more too. and if that INCLUDES your honeymoon, really that's not bad at all! i was reading that the average wedding in the US costs $22,000!!! ouch. that's what? about $30,000 cdn there abouts? so if yours, including the honeymoon and all, was around $15,000 cdn (before your monetary gifts) that's like $11,000 US, and after your gifts that's about $5000 US. pretty damn good for a wedding! i should quit my job and go into the wedding business! the mark up on those dresses and ANYTHING to do w/ a wedding.... sheesh!

That sounds like a great wedding. My boyfriend and I have no plans on ever getting married - I mean we've lived together 5 years now and we'd rather spend our money on other things, than food, dresses, tuxes etc etc. My brother and his fiancee are getting married in two days and its got all the wedding trimmings, so to speak... but I think he saved up for quite a while to pay for it. If I were to get married I think it would be cool to do it in Vegas then come back to Canada and have a party with my friends and family to celebrate!

You are common law after 1 year of living together and it used to be they had no "benefits" and whatnot, but not any longer... its pretty much just like you were married if you were to split up. Edit: It doesn't really matter to me about common law or not - I wouldn't take him for half of what he has anyway. The deal we have is, whats mine is mine, whats his is his, and whats joint is split. Same way we have our bank accounts set up. I have mine, he has his, and we have a joint one for common expenses.

Google is a great thing. from canadianlawsite.com regarding ontario and common law marriages. Seems for tax purposes its 1 year of living together and for support its 3 years:Quote, originally posted by canadianlawsite.com »There are substantial differences should the relationship end upon the death of one partner or one partner leaves the relationship:The Family Law Act of Ontario currently treats common-law relationships as trial marriages(Section 29) unless there are children. You can live together for up to three years without having to worry about court ordered support obligations should you separate during that period. The Family Law Act of Ontario, after a common-law relationship has passed the three year mark, treats both parties as if they were married when determining support obligations. Support is based upon the need of one party and ability to pay by the other. Should two people living common-law have a child together, the Family Law Act of Ontario states that support obligations, should the couple separate, take effect immediately in spite of the length of the relationship. There is no sharing of property when a common-law relationship ends except jointly owned property. Should one of the common-law partners die, unless there is a will, there is no right to claim against the deceased partner's estate. However, you can share in your deceased partner's Canada Pension Plan if you have lived together for at least one year.

I believe when you are married, you are still two individuals making one life together, but you are still your own person. I don't know if that makes any sense... does anyone understand what I'm talking about? I think this happens to a lot of women. They believe that they are "one being" but then their husband leaves them and they don't know what to do.

I make much less than my boyfriend does - our finances are split that way... we total what our gross income is and then split it based on what percentage of the total we each have... I think we've got a 40/60 split.

very interesting conversation here. i will add that i always believe also, that when you marry, you are ONE unit. i believe you should put your money together. what if something happens and the other isn't working, or you have a stay at home mom? is that any less important of a job at home than just making money? you can always make more money but you can't always find that special person.however, i do believe it's important to have some extra little money for yourselves that you can spend or save as you wish w/o having to consult the other. but i'm talking like small items or an allowance if you will. plus, i'd want to buy a house so would want most of the extra money going to savings for a down payment.
