I think so!)Sounds like a worthy pusuit. Glad you like the pics above You're lack of comfort with wrapping the wires around the column is probably a good thing. the more I think about the less I'd be compfortable with it. Anyway, didn't have much to add really. Good luck with the MR2 avenue!

mr2 avenue looks to be a dead end. seems they only have two airbag wires. not sure why.so (last?) step will be to buy a corolla clocksping off ebay and see if i can modify it myself.don;t expect much news for 2 weeks, but if you guys have an idea, let me know.joatman did you ever make any headway with the radio pinout question?
no, it hasn't been high enough priority for me to get me to pull my radio out and start trying to hook up various resitive things to it. I know that you want to keep it simple, and that complicates things You could probably come up with a switch module that referenced to ground, use the comparator to break out the horn signal, and then have another part of the circuit convert the "resistor to ground" remote radio controls to the "resistor to 12V" signals that the radio is looking for.
I may be intruding on someones idear here, but I'll shoot this out anyway...are there concentrinc ring conductor plates for the controls? If so you can use a lathe to "add rings" to the conductor plates to add more spaces...I have done this numerous times on other cars to add controls to the steering wheel. Just thought I would ask

Any reason you're looking for a Corolla clockpring, as opposed to a Matrix or Vibe one? More availability, maybe?

Quote, originally posted by joatmon »in http://forums.genvibe.com/zero...60666, johnsoax posted a delphi radio pin out, and the remote control pin A7 you are using is labelled as "RUI1". Pin B7 is labelled UI2. I wonder what RUI means, and what the difference is between RUI1 and RUI2?I messed around with this today and couldn't get anything to happen by connecting B7 through a resistor to either ground or +12V. used a pot to vary it, but nothing.Quote, originally posted by jeffgtx »YES there are more hidden functions on the radio. i discovered that today by accident. there was one called TRACK SCAN and another one that let me edit the D1 T1 on the changer read out. i was too afraid to mess with it, but it gave me a blinking cursor. The pot I used was a 50K one, so it was a coarse adjustment for some of the values in the schedmatic (which is gone?) Do you remember what resistor values you used to get the track scan and the D1T1 edit? What is a D1 T1 anyway?I did find out that on my CD/tape unit from a matrix, the same resistance that switches between various radio station presets also reverses the tape if the tape is playing. What you have as "Play" switches between tape and CD. If only there was a way to tell it that the "AUX" imput was active ... but that is a topic for about 50 other threads

(Do not use +12v or ground)PS- It's also possible, that once hooked up correctly, varying the pot while it remains connected may not work. You may have to disconnect, move the pot, reconnect, repeat.Quote, originally posted by joatmon » What is a D1 T1 anyway?Disc 1 Track 1 - This is the display if you have a remote CD changer connected.

well, if you hook RUI1, pin A7 through a resistor to +12V, it does the same thing as if you hook it through a resistor to Pin A6, except that since pin A6 has about nine and a half volts instead of 12, it takes a slightly larger resistance when hooked up to 12V.to get the same voltage on pin A7. The voltage on pin A6 is probably better regulated to the guts of the radio though, should provide more consistent A7 voltage for when the engine is off or running, or other things that affect the voltage on the "12V" supply sideI had mentioned the RUI2 signal on pin B7, and jeff recently IM'd me to ask if I ever tried anything with it, so today I did, and tried connecting it through a resistor to 12V, ground, pin A7, pin A6, pin B6, but I couldn't get anything good or bad to happen when I did. Since pin A7 provided the remote control function through a connection to a positive voltage, I thought maybe pin B7 would allow the same through a reference to ground, but it didn't work out that way. Just hooking up the pot and varying it worked when I got the resistance loaw enough to change the rpeset, but it did require opening/reconnecting to get some of the things to workl repeatedly. I'd meaasure the resistance, hook it up, see what happened (if anything), unhook it, change the resistance a small amount, and go through the cycle again.
i was thinking after we talked... do you think it might for some of those cars (SUVS/minivans) that have some controls for the rear seat passengers? and it uses a different resistor network?did you happen to do anything with a1 or a2?i really don't want to take my radio out again!!! i am getting too good at taking that middle cover off!
since the controls are normally open, I don't see why you couldn't run multiple controls in parallel. I thought A1 and A2 were the serial data lines use by the head unit to control the remote CD changer, as is used with the Nav unit. I didn't mess with them
